About Us

The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of six Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Communication Sciences and Disorders), three large Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Applied Health Sciences and Advanced Health Care Practice and four Research Centres. The Faculty has more than 3,200 undergraduate students and more than 800 graduate students (200 PhD students).

Responsibilities

The Digital Support Specialist provides direct support to faculty for their digital teaching needs in FHS, including planning, creating, and editing digital teaching content for online and hybrid courses.  Additionally, the Digital Support Specialist is responsible for troubleshooting hardware, software and device issues in the Anatomy VR teaching space. The Digital Support Specialist will deploy new hardware and software necessary for digital educational technology, and works collaboratively with the other members of the Instructional Design, IT Group, and Digital Communications groups to provide access to and support for equipment and digital teaching space use.

Qualifications

Education:
-   Community College Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in a relevant discipline – Digital Media, Educational Technology, Media Production, Information Technology
-   University Degree in Digital Media or Information Technology is preferred

Experience:
-   3 years' experience providing support and coordination in an in the area of technology support, instructional design, or related experience
-   Previous experience as an IT support resource preferred
-   Previous experience with digital teaching technology and/or virtual reality platforms, preferably in an educational context preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Familiarity with digital teaching technology to deliver instructional programs and courses
-   Ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
-   Analytical skills to accurately interpret and integrate report data from various sources
-   Ability to produce high-quality results and workable solutions that meet client needs
-   Attention to detail with an ability to retrieve, analyze and synthesize sizable amounts of data, while ensuring that information is accurate and comprehensive
-   Ability to work with a variety of faculty members, subjects and teaching styles
-   Ability to adapt to change and learn new technical and organization concepts and processes
-   Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with learning management systems (e.g. Sakai), with Web 2.0 tools and social media
-   Capable of learning new software quickly, with the ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
-   Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users with the ability to write clear, concise and accurate procedural documentation
-   Self-driven, independent thinker who is highly motivated and possesses an intrinsic passion for quality
-   Ability to multi-task, prioritize, manage multiple and diverse tasks and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
