About Us

The department of Social Science Technology Services' (SSTS) mission is to deliver the best technology services and support to faculty, staff and students in the Faculty of Social Science in a helpful and friendly manner. We will do our part to contribute to "the best student experience" and to support the faculty to fulfill the research and teaching mission of the University.

Responsibilities

The Programmer/Analyst will develop and support new and existing applications and the programming infrastructure in the Faculty of Social Science. This involves supporting and updating a number of SQL databases with web or Access front ends that support day-to-day operations within Social Science Technology Services (SSTS) and for faculty, staff and students in FSS, and associated scripts, creating new databases and scripts as necessary. The Programmer/Analyst will also provide support to the web infrastructure including setting up web sites, setting up security and supporting all web editors in the faculty, and will provide client technical support for Social Science Technology Services and the faculty.

Qualifications

Education:
-    College diploma in in an information technology field or a university degree with a minor in an information technology field
-    Proficiency in a variety of programming languages, including PHP, Javascript, CSS, Perl, C#, Visual Studio and HTML
-    University degree in Computer Science or equivalent  is preferred 

Experience:
-    2 years of relevant experience in IT programming and technical support
-    Previous experience working in an IT Programming and Technical support role in an academic or public sector institution is preferred 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-    Knowledge of Windows Server including Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, and Share and NTFS permissions
-    Advanced computer skills with Windows and software packages such as Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Outlook and Word), SQL, and with content management systems (such as Cascade)
-    Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate (orally and in writing) with technical and non-technical users
-    Ability to write clear, concise procedural documentation
-    Strong customer service skills to handle enquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
-    Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
-    A strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently with little supervision
-    Ability to handle diverse situations, multiple projects and rapidly changing priorities
-    Strong problem-solving skills including experience formulating and executing action plans
-    Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
