Who is a Lead Data Engineer?

The Lead Data Engineer will play an important role in driving forward GoodLife’s Technology & Innovation product roadmap through helping to build data services that support WOW experiences for our Members and Associates. In our mission to be the BEST combined Live and Digital fitness experience, data plays a significant role in empowering a more personalized and informed suite of digital services. Joining the Data Services Team, you will help design, implement, and maintain batch and real-time scalable data pipelines with complex data transformations. In addition, you will support our software developers, database architects and data analysts on data initiatives to ensure an optimal data delivery architecture. The Lead Data Engineer assumes a technical and associate leadership position for development projects and shares knowledge and experience with other members of the development team, while developing their skills, communication and experience.

What will you be doing?

  • Design, implement, and maintain batch and real-time scalable data pipelines with complex data transformations
  • Design, build, maintain and improve data platform infrastructure for ingesting, storing, and transforming data to enable data-driven products and services
  • Write and optimize complex queries in order to make data easily and efficiently accessible to the consumers
  • Assist with day-to-day support for data-related technical issues and data infrastructure needs
  • Bring modern technologies and practices into GoodLife’s data ecosystem to improve reliability and support for rapid scaling of the business’s data needs
  • Collaborates with Architecture, Infrastructure, and Security teams to understand the infrastructure and platform roadmaps and identifies opportunities for process improvement in order to maximize the quality, efficiency and agility of data services team.
  • Manages direct reports and the people requirements of the Team using provided tools and resources to ensure the successful execution of all key responsibilities and tasks, retention of great talent, and high Associate engagement.
  • Provide technical support and mentorship for Data Engineers in their day-to-day work
  • Leads the onboarding, coaching, learning, development, and performance management of all direct reports to ensure a positive and safe working experience.
  • Provide personnel and administrative supervision. Conduct hiring, personnel evaluation, counseling, mentorship and development. Develop and deliver training plans to maintain professional staffing with the necessary skillsets to execute on business commitments.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Experience in ETL/ data modeling, building scalable and reliable batch and event-driven data pipelines, architecting data stores, supporting complex ETL processes including SLA, performance measurements, and monitoring
  • 4 to 8 years of hands-on experience in data engineering including data and application integration, ETL framework design
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with Informatica IICS and Snowflake, certification preferred
  • 3+ years hands on experience with data warehouse design implementation
  • Over 3 years’ experience with responsibility for the analysis, design, development and maintenance of a variety of data engineering solutions, creating test plans, test cases/scripts
  • Proven technical team leadership, estimation and task management experience
  • Hands-on experience with leading Cloud platforms, including Azure Cloud Data Solutions
  • Excellent SQL skills
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
