About Us

The Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women & Children (CREVAWC) was founded in 1992 as a collaborative venture between The University of Western OntarioFanshawe College and the London Coordinating Committee to End Women Abuse. The Centre was established in response to a federal study on the problem of violence against women, triggered by the 1989 murder of 14 women at École Polytechnique in Montreal. 

The Centre is committed to the development and application of knowledge for the prevention of violence against women and children through promoting innovation, collaboration and equality.

Responsibilities

The Media Technician will assist knowledge mobilization initiatives for the Knowledge Hub and the Learning Network, such as coordinating the administration of webinars and other learning events and product resources. Through websites, graphic design, and social media, the job will support the promotion of the KH, the LN, and their member initiatives in order to increase interest and participation in events and learning sessions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Coordinates and provides technical support in the setup, testing and delivery of approximately 40  to 50  bilingual, unilingual and hybrid events for the KH and LN each year,  
  • Scheduling and coordination of webinars and learning events 
  • Schedules and sends out web conferencing links on online learning sites and or other communications to participants and instructors, including security settings as required 
  • Monitors attendance virtually (up to 3000 per session), including admitting late arrivals to the learning session, muting audio as required 
  • Coordinates the grouping of participants to have smaller group discussions as part of the online learning experience, including reminders and discussion topics in the web conferencing parameters 
  • Coordinates bilingual and sign language interpreters for events 
  • Ensures materials and recordings are posted prior to and following each event 
  • Disseminates surveys to support post-event evaluation activities, in collaboration with the Learning Director 
  • Contributes to the communications that support knowledge mobilization for the KH and LN  
  • Creates, coordinates, and posts social media updates to generate interest and engagement with events and learning sessions, collaborating with the Communications team as required (i.e. for large events) 
  • Coordinates the distribution of outreach materials to promote learning events¿ 
  • Reviews and seeks out information on updates and new functionality and tools for online learning platforms, and disseminates to the team 
  • Monitors and contributes to the maintenance of the KH and LN websites 
  • Makes surface updates to the websites, ensuring that information is accurate and up to date 

Education:

Minimum Required: 

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant area of focus

Skills, Abilities, and Attributes:

Experience: 1 year of work experience supporting research in a related technical field

  • Experience working with web conferencing software and tools (Zoom)
  • Experience configuring and facilitating the delivery of large-scale sessions using web conferencing software
  • Experience coordinating social media platforms, communication and engagement strategies 
  • Experience in building positive and strong relationships with stakeholders 
  • Knowledge of operating systems, web browsers, online learning platforms and web conferencing compatibility issues and functional capabilities 
  • Familiarity with the merits and challenges of a variety of web conferencing software (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype) 
  • Excellent troubleshooting ability along with hands-on expertise in technical support 
  • Verbal and written communication skills with an ability to document technical information
