Manufacturing Systems Specialist

Role Summary
Reporting to the Manufacturing Systems Supervisor, the Manufacturing Systems Specialist is responsible forbut not limited to, working with Manufacturing Engineering, Customers and Vendors to design, quote, build, launch and troubleshoot all Manufacturing related Systems.  This is done through the analysis and evaluation of requirements and improvements needed for future business and customer expectations.  In addition, the Manufacturing Systems Specialist is to provide support to the operation and maintenance of all shop floor related data processing equipment and systems, working with and through the IT Analysts.  They are to continually strive for process improvements for shop floor data collection and scheduling, this includes PLC applications as they interface with the data collection systems.  Ensure consistent support of the manufacturing systems – MES, PLCs, Robotics and automation to encourage continuous improvement wherever possible in a cost-efficient manner exceeding the expectations of the customer, CAMI Automotive, and Magna International.
Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and following all Safety Rules at QSS. Follows all Plant Standards and ensures compliance to the QSS employee handbook along with all QSS policies and procedures. Responsible to ensure compliance to the correct and safe way to operate their equipment, follows all ODS instructions and comply’s with Company standards on the use of personal protective equipment. Responsible for recognizing and rectifying unsafe working conditions and maintains excellent housekeeping (5S) at QSS
  • Ensure that all MSS/Maintenance departmental objectives and activities are aligned to the Magna Employee Charter and Magna Corporate Constitution. 
  • Comply to all QSS policies and procedures.
  • Conveys information to management regarding all consequential operational problems.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for continual improvement.
  • Perform special projects in support of the organizations business objectives.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned
Key Qualifications/Requirements
  • Must have a University degree or College diploma in mechatronics, electronics or an IT field. Three to five years work experience, in an automotive (JIT) Tier 1, preferably Seating manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of both.
  • Must have experience programming Robotics and PLC’s. SQL and software development experience would be an asset.
  • Successful candidate must be a self-motivated individual able to work in a fully computerized work environment, will have a commitment to working in a continuous improvement environment and will have good leadership skills and excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to think independently and strong project management skills would be an asset.
