The Opportunity
Callon Dietz is recruiting an unlimited number of Student Drafting Technologists for co-operative education placements at any time throughout the year.
Student Drafting Technologists will participate in drafting of various types of survey project including engineering, topographic, bathymetric, geodetic, utility, aerial, MMS/LiDAR, legal/cadastral, land development/informational, and subsurface utility.

The Role
The responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Processing of raw field data and initial quality control.
  • Drafting of project deliverables for all types of projects undertaken by Callon Dietz. This can include engineering and legal plans, building layouts of all types, and as-built surveys.
  • Assist in the further development of in-house CAD/Mapping standards.
  • Provide technical support to internal clients.
  • Coordinate and communicate closely with project lead and drafting supervisor to ensure that projects remain on budget and on schedule.
  • Ensure that quality control standards and procedures, all applicable Acts, regulations, and standards are followed for all project deliverables.
  • Build contour modelling and DTMs from a variety of data sources.
  • Register, clean, and edit 3D point clouds from various data sources to create quality deliverables.
  • Prepare uploads for field
  • Plans search information, calculate
  • Perform duties in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Callon Dietz Health & Safety program and internal safety protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


The Ideal Candidate

  • Is currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program in Geomatics, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
  • Is highly proficient in the Microsoft Suite of programs
  • Is a strong communicator who can embrace our high productivity work environment by positively contributing to the team effort
  • Possesses a high attention to detail and strong problem solving skills
  • Proven understanding of engineering and legal survey theories and principles
  • Understands the importance of our high degree of quality and compliance to health and safety standards
  • Previous experience with surveying would be considered an asset
  • Previous experience working with or knowledge of Civil 3D, MicroStation, Trimble Business Centre or LiDAR software would be an asset
