At VidHug (https://vidhug.com), we enable anyone to create fun, visually-appealing, and meaningful group video messages to celebrate the people in their lives. This helps them stay connected to their loved ones over long distances or when getting together simply isn’t an option. We do so with a software platform that our users love because it is quick, easy to use, and produces a special and memorable surprise.

We are a small, growing startup, serving a large and engaged user base that has sent millions of video “hugs” around the world. The team is primarily based in London, Ontario, Canada, and works in a hybrid model of both remote and co-located team members.

We often hear the phrases “tears of joy” or “best gift I ever received” from our customers. Working on a product that makes people feel loved and appreciated motivates us and we’re looking for people to share that sentiment.

The Role

You’ll join the team responsible for our group video creation platform, which helps our users both easily collect videos from people they invite and then turn those videos into a customized video montage in a 100% automated fashion. 

The bulk of your time will be spent defining, implementing and testing improvements to our SAAS (Software-As-A-Service) platform. Initially, your focus will be on our React.js front-end, but with opportunities to work across our full technology stack.

• You enjoy working as part of a small, tight-knit team (technical and/or cross-functional) and proactively collaborating and communicating with other team members.
• While you work best when focused on a single task, you also rise to meet the challenges of inevitable context switches and multitasking.
• You are comfortable working remotely (e.g. from home) or in a co-located team
• You test your own code thoroughly and try to catch any and all bugs before you consider it “done”.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

• Experience (minimum: 2 years) working on a React.js application in a production environment
• Skilled at designing and implementing new UI/UX
• Development workflow using Git
• Experience integrating with 3rd party APIs (e.g. Stripe)
• Legally permitted to work in Canada

• Slack, GSuite, Google Docs, Trello
• CSS, Bootstrap

• npm, yarn, webpack
• Serverless
• AWS stack (Lambda, DynamoDb, etc)
• Python
• FFMPEG, video formats
• Understanding of content delivery (streaming, CDNs)
• Experience with code reviews (as author and reviewer)
