We are looking for a Director, Data.

 

What you will do: 

Leadership and Data Strategy

  • Establish and execute management processes (e.g., budget management, risk management, issue management, resource management,) consistent with the company’s evolving strategic processes, financial management and resource management  
  • Implement and govern regular strategic initiative status reporting, providing visibility to the milestones and performance of key work streams, raising visibility of all strategic decisions, issues, risks, and strategic milestones
  • Collaborate with the data customers and advisors to promote and adopt innovation and grow the business 
  • Advocate for Data and Analytics and champion change, driving adoption across business units and functions
  • Lead the delivery of priority initiatives each year, acting as a sponsor
  • Contribute to the strategic data strategy and plan for Canada
  • Contribute to the data foundations, architecture, governance, and data management practices for Canada
  • Take a complex organization and establish policies, process, and standard to implement data governance for Canada

 

Business Problem Solving Skills

  • Identify business problems, that if remedied, will return significant value using data in partnership with data owners and advisors
  • Cultivate relationships to help with the determination of root-cause data quality problems, resolve problems & opportunities to drive significant data quality improvements across the company
  • Versatile in Data Management, Management, and Governance
  • Lead a team that works with large data-sets (millions of records & thousands of variables)
  • Lead a team to work with data-set are not always clean, consistent, & fully modelled
  • Lead a team to become intimately familiar with data-sets stored across 300+ systems 
  • Lead a team to profile large data-sets to determine data quality remediation plans
  • Lead a team and proficient with data management tools such as: IGC, IA, stewardship centre, data modelling, database knowledge and tools, data modelling, data architecture, visualization tools, and regular expressions.
  • Use problem solving skills to mature data governance, data management, and data architecture across Canada

 

Communications skills

  • Exhibit strong presentation & communication skills as there will be significant interaction with executive leadership across multiple lines of business. Insurance experience preferred
  • Interact with senior leaders, AVP and up, to communicate data initiatives and priorities

 

What you will bring: 

  • Minimum of at least 15 years of work experience in the data area with a material focus on the insurance industry
  • Expertise in software development and data management as asset
  • 8+ years in a leadership position leading data or software projects (Financial industry an asset)
  • Certification in Project Management (Agile certification an asset)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, advisors, customers, and prospects
  • Strong creative thinking skills to determine unique ways to deliver on unmet customer needs
  • Proven interpersonal / teamwork skills on high performing teams
  • Experience working on project teams to analyze business needs
  • Proven ability to learn and handle multiple priorities in a challenging work environment
  • Proven ability to think at an abstract level
  • Reliability Status security clearance - this is a personnel security status that is required before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada  website

The base salary for this position is between  $89,800.00 - $136,000.00 annually.  This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
