Team Leader - Mechanical

Our team members tackle challenging robotic pick-and-place, packaging, palletizing, assembly, and quality inspection applications for clients across North America in multiple industries. Typical projects range between 3-12 months in duration, $100k to $10M+ in value, and 3 to 20 awesome team members you can count on.

What Would a Typical Day Look Like?

As a Team Leader – Mechanical Group, you will:

  • Set direction of the Mechanical Group through technical guidance and individual mentorship
  • Acts as a strategic leader to assist team in overcoming challenging automation project obstacles through creative problem solving, tenacity, and assertive objective decision making
  • Coach Mechanical Group in designing custom automation equipment such as robot end of arm tooling, structures, fixtures, and mechanisms in a collaborative environment using SolidWorks while overseeing the management of project budgets to deliver results on time
  • Leverage experience and intuition to identify and mitigate employee, team, and project risks
  • Drive the recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding process of new Mechanical Designers.
  • Given the nature of the work, employees occasionally work over weekends or outside of standard business hours as required.
  • Accountable for the performance review cycle and subsequent development of employees
  • Coach team on best practices of solid automation and robotic equipment designs
  • Establish a design culture that is safety conscious with an emphasis on flexible functionality
  • Assign and schedule resources on projects and tasks as required
  • Tackle continuous improvement initiatives to do more with less and improve project lead times
  • Take charge of Mechanical Group staffing recommendations and onboarding new employees
  • Collaborate with group leaders and management to ensure project and business unit success
  • Contribute to strategic planning of the Automation & Robotics Division to fuel growth

 

 

What Qualifies You for this Opportunity?

  • Extensive experience in mechanical engineering design of automation equipment
  • Aptitude for leading both junior and tenured design teams
  • Post-secondary Degree/Diploma in Engineering from a recognized engineering faculty or equivalent
  • Expert level of proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with implementation of pneumatics and electromechanical systems, custom tooling, and manufacturing processes as well as corresponding costing
  • Exposure to the food, consumer packaged goods, and general manufacturing industries
  • Able to work with multidisciplinary teams on fast-paced projects, prioritizing multiple objectives
  • Prior exposure to a client-facing role delivering an extraordinary customer experience
  • Motivated and passionate about collaborating with internal team, customers, and vendors to overcome challenges
  • Works well with a variety of different people from diverse backgrounds
  • An ability to travel; although this position is focused on local clients and minimal travel is required, incumbent should have the ability to travel within US and Canada
