Analyst - Financial Accounting (Canada - Remote)

The Role:?

The Senior Accountant will have a primary role of reviewing/entering client contracts into the NETSUITE accounting system, supporting and managing (longer term) the company’s revenue accounting process, and providing contract/revenue information to senior leadership plus finance personnel. The position will also regularly communicate contract/revenue/invoicing policies and procedures to sales associates and sales support teams. In addition, this position will have a secondary role of supporting and improving our NETSUITE system capabilities and reporting requirements.


The Impact

The main impact will be felt throughout JD Power by providing timely analyses of client contracts/revenues . With the “systems” role, the revenue accounting team should be able to support ad hoc requests (e.g., audits) in a more efficient manner.


Responsibilities
  • Accounting
    • Analysis of client contracts for necessary terms and conditions; review of earnings process to determine appropriate timing and amount of revenue recognition; analysis of revenue earned but not yet billed; and revenue accruals.
    • Preparation of monthly account reconciliations for Unbilled AR, WIP inventory, and Deferred Revenue.
    • Longer term, manage the contract administrators responsible for the maintenance of client contracts within the NETSUITE accounting system. Includes training others on the NETSUITE accounting system and providing assistance with the interpretation and review of client contracts.
    • Review revenue accounting methodologies by product on an ongoing process and ensure methodologies are consistent with corporate policies and governing accounting regulations.
    • Work with finance and sales operations to make sure the monthly close and forecast processes are managed timely and accurately.
    • Liaise and coordinate with sales and operational staff to obtain the necessary information to complete proper billing and revenue input and support required to complete the transactions
    • Communicate contract/revenue policies and procedures updates to sales associates and sales support teams regularly or as directed.
    Systems
    • Coordinate all system reporting with IT department. Responsibilities include development and implementation of additional reporting; training for department and other users of the NETSUITE system; documentation of system processes and controls.
    • Assist Credit and Collections in contacting and following up with sales account executives (AE’s) in regards to their clients with past due invoices.
    • Review of system capabilities (NETSUITE, Oracle, Salesforce, Insight), processes, and additional programming and reporting requirements as needed.
    • Quarterly review of NETSUITE systems access. Annual testing of NETSUITE processes and controls for SOX compliance.

    Qualifications
    • 5 to 7 years of related experience in finance and accounting (2 years at a Big 4 accounting firm is strongly preferred)
    • NETSUITE and Oracle experience preferred.
    • TM1 or other multidimensional OLAP cube based enterprise planning system experience (i.e. Hyperion) would be a plus.
