Responsibilities

The Project & Event Specialist (Organizational Development) will play a key role in advancing a variety of learning and organizational development projects and initiatives that are of strategic importance for the University. Examples include employee survey measurement planning and deployment, large employee learning and recognition events (in-person, or virtual webinars), staff conferences, and other organizational development projects.

The Project & Event Specialist will gain exposure to a variety of partners and stakeholders within Human Resources and across Western.  Using project management practices, you will prepare and help execute project and event plans, and change management strategies, compile written information and numerical reports, prepare documentation, presentations, and project communications, write correspondence, and coordinate, attend and document working group and planning meetings, while maintaining the utmost level of confidentiality and sensitivity. The role will facilitate the delivery of key communications related to project implementation and conduct data collection and analysis to support the work.  The Project & Event Specialist is a member of the Talent, Learning & Engagement Team.

Qualifications

Education:
-   Undergraduate University Degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Social Sciences or Communications 
Professional Qualifications and Licenses:
-   Project Management Professional or related certificate (completed or in progress)

Experience:
-   3 years' experience coordinating and managing large-scale projects and events in a large, complex environment    
-   Experience drafting communications and/or presentations

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Organizational skills to successfully facilitate multiple projects, often of a complex nature or involving competing priorities and consistently produce high-quality work within deadlines
-   Knowledge of project management principles and frameworks and event planning practices
-   Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
-   Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to make best use of technology to manage projects, events and other initiatives
-   Communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, prepare presentations, write clearly and succinctly, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
-   Data and technology skills to work with multiple data sources and prepare information in a variety of formats for analysis or presentation
-   Ability to apply critical thinking to evaluate information and make appropriate decisions or recommendations
-   Problem solving skills with a sense of urgency in resolving issues and getting tasks completed
-   Ability and orientation to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
-   Proven ability to work well with diverse individuals and teams and an inclination to develop strong working relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
-   Ability to apply tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive issues
