Description

InfoTech Research Group is in a period of rapid and exciting growth; having experienced almost 40% growth this past year, we are scaling both our US and Canadian operations, and need an HR and Payroll Specialist, with specific knowledge of the US and Canadian payroll landscape. This includes anything related to tax, grants, incentives, state specific programs, benefits, insurance, and reporting needs.  

The HR and Payroll Specialist USA will report to the Director, HR Operations but will also work closely with the Finance and Payroll teams. They will be responsible for researching, documenting, and overseeing various HR and Payroll duties related to Info-Tech Research Group’s US employees.  

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize corporate compliance and associated reporting for all Federal, State and Local employee taxation matters related (but not limited) to income tax withholding, unemployment insurance, workers compensation along with other legislated taxes and benefits.
  • Assist with researching and administering available hiring tax credits, grants, or other available US incentives
  • Manage and coordinate corporately sponsored Canadian (and other foreign) employees annual US personal tax filing requirements with employees and third-party accounting firm.
  • Maintain programs related to state specific programs
  • Provide information to employees and employer on State-specific or Federal entitlements for job-protected leaves of absence.
  • Administer company sponsored 401k plan and ensure adherence to standard industry best practices.
  • Create and maintain all necessary employment related company policies for US operations following the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) as well as any state-specific laws and regulations.
  • Create and maintain annual required reporting for programs such as AAP, ACA, ERISA.
  • Research, document, and ensure compliance with Federal and State specific laws and regulations
  • Assist in any other special projects as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • College or University Degree in HR, Finance/Accounting, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Required experience working in an HR department for a Canadian parent company with USA operations.
  • Extensive knowledge of US employment laws and standards.
  • Experience working with UKG HRMS is an asset
  • CHRP, PHR, SHRM, and/or CPA designation is an asset.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Able to research and understand complex laws and regulations and write HR policies in easy-to-understand language.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
