Mechanical Designer / Mechanical Design Engineer

We are looking for a Mechanical Designer or Engineer proficient in 3D SolidWorks and 2D (AutoCAD/DraftSight) with experience in large custom equipment design. You will work with engineering and other designers to integrate and design biomass combustion systems and produce detailed production ready drawings

Responsibilities

• Work with senior designers and engineers to design biomass combustion systems following specifications as determined by engineering
• Prepare supporting calculations (stress analysis, machining fits, etc) and data to ensure safe and reliable designs that meet specifications requirements
• Build and maintain 3D CAD library within PDM following SolidWorks best practices for generating parts, assemblies and drawings
• Produce and update drawings for production and field installations both in 3D and 2D.
• Produce and update 2D General Arrangement drawings of equipment layouts for project proposals, and for awarded projects including general structural and foundation drawings
• Provide support in checking drawings, specification requirements, BOMs and assemblies prior to drawing submissions
• Compile submittal documents required for proposals, quotes and customer documentation
• Participate in customer or vendor conference calls or meetings and take responsibility to follow-up and resolve issues
• Work with design team to find efficient and timely solutions to design problems under the constraint of the project schedule
• Cooperate and communicate effectively with design team and other departments to provide assistance and technical support
• Potential travel to fabrication shops or customer sites
• Take ownership and accountability of drawings and designs, participate in meetings and customer calls to resolve problems
• Work with vendors for part selection and pricing
• Take on special projects such as; process improvement, KMW standards development, spare part quotations, design automation
• Performs reviews of and understands industry and regulatory requirements in relation to assigned tasks to identify project risks

Requirements

• Relevant Engineering/Design related Diploma or Degree
• Years of Experience:
  • AutoCAD: 3 years (Required)
  • SolidWorks: 3 years (Required)
  • SolidWorks PDM: 3 years (Required)
  • Mechanical Design: 3 years (Required)
• SolidWorks: Strong knowledge of combined weldments & sheet metal parts and assemblies, drawings, configurations and large assembly modelling to optimize design time within SolidWorks are mandatory.
• SolidWorks: Ability to plan 3D models and assemblies ahead and chooses start point models for new projects to minimize duplication of drawings of re-usable components
• SolidWorks: Must be well versed in SolidWorks best modelling practices
• AutoCad or DraftSight: Proficient in 2D CAD has had completed projects using 2D
• Experience in drawing standards and revision control is mandatory
• Practical knowledge of equipment assembly and fabrication techniques (Design for Assembly & Design for Manufacturing)
• Experience in weldment design
• Proven working experience in custom equipment design
• The following skills are an assets:
  • General understanding of boiler systems
  • Knowledge of Ducting and piping
  • Knowledge of Industrial Fans
  • Ability to interpret P&ID Diagrams
  • Able to perform some mechanical equipment sizing (bearings, sprockets, etc)
• Working experience with MS Office Suite and Google Workspace (ie, Google Meet)
• Confidence in being a project or task owner from start to finish with logical decision-making ability and able to take accountability for their work
• Self starter and able to take initiative when bottlenecks arise
• Time management and organization skills
