Job Description

Scrum Master

Location:  London, Ontario, Canada

Reports to:  Project Director

 

The Role: 

The candidate for this position will act as a Scrum Master for the organization which has multiple Scrum teams that are at varying levels of Agile maturity. The candidate will be responsible for implementing Agile best practices in all assigned Scrum teams and will also be responsible for working with stakeholder organizational leaders to ensure that individual team activities are aligned with overall business objectives. The candidate will be an experienced Scrum Master who has a positive servant leader attitude and experience with multiple teams in Product /Project oriented settings. The candidate will be a dynamic and effective coach capable of leading Agile teams in the delivery of high quality solutions while emphasizing collaboration, team self-management and ensuring flexibility to adapt to the Agile principles that will achieve the business goals of JD Power.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style wherever possible and leading by example.
  • Guiding and Coaching the Scrum Team and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values.
  • Mentors the team to become self-organized based on the scrum values of commitment, focus, openness, and respect.
  • Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization.
  • Effectively communicates roadblocks and removes impediments or negotiates with other areas in prioritizing work.
  • Fosters and motivates a culture of openness, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborates with multiple stakeholders in order to drive execution of product roadmap and partners with other teams to source, allocate and coordinate resources.
  • Mediates and facilitates resolution of conflicts between team members and keeps team meetings focused and productive.
  • Coordinates the agile team's daily standups, retrospectives, sprint and release planning and provides guidance to estimation and grooming.
  • Develops agendas and summarizes key meeting discussions and decision.
  • Builds strong communication channels with stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Improves transparency by assisting with communication on the status of milestones and managing expectations.
  • Works with product owners to understand and refine complex business problems into a prioritized backlog.
  • Compile, analyze and present statistics about time estimation accuracy, team velocity and burndown rate to development team and management each sprint.
  • Helping the team and the product owner to find a suitable Definition of Done and Definition of Ready.
  • Contributes to forecasting and planning of deliverables based on metrics for a release; Manages the creation of the release documentation and process.

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 5+ years of Scrum experience in a Scrum Master capacity.
  • Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills with a high comfort level presenting to a variety of audiences including senior management. Excellent communication and coaching skills.
  • Hands on experience with agile software development along with a demonstrated ability to lead distributed teams consisting of technologist and business representatives.
  • Strong ability to balance multiple priorities and respond to urgent issues and/or changes in priorities.
  • Support Scrum of Scrum reporting and planning, focusing on integration of scrum team schedules and work products.
