About the role

We are currently seeking an experienced Sr. Trade Compliance Specialist that will develop, lead and implement policies and processes related to export/import regulations for all Trojan Technologies activities globally. This role will work a hybrid working arrangement from either our London, ON or Guelph, ON location.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Develop customs compliance policies, procedures and documentation. This includes compliance reviews, internal self-assessments, supplier QBRs, post-entry audits and standard work for all required record-keeping.

  • Set strategy for export/import programs that minimize duty and reduce importing costs, such as Duty Drawback with the ability to file duty drawback claims in house.

  • Mentor, govern, oversee, and assist in the day-to-day import/export operations. Step in to support the wider Transport and Logistics Team.

  • Management and communication of global export, import and customs operations based on current compliance regulations and business needs. Continuously study and upgrade trade compliance knowledge and translate into practical business recommendations.

  • Liaise with customs authorities and other government agencies, ensuring compliance to local, national and international regulations.

  • Communicate, coordinate and assess customs brokers, including transactional efficiency, capacity, entry accuracy and overall service levels.

  • Lead Harmonized Tariff Schedule and Export Classification Number analysis related to import and export of items from vendors, customs verifications and/or request for information.

  • Lead the application and management of export permits and licenses.

  • Carry out benchmarking of customs Initiatives – CARM, PIP, FTA.

  • Ensure processes are implemented and results are periodically audited with respect to Restricted Party Screening and transactional screening.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in Global Trade Compliance, preference for experience with a multinational firm

  • Extensive knowledge of Canada & U.S. trade requirements

  • Knowledge of imports specifically from China and exports specifically to Europe

  • CCS (Certified Customs Specialist) or similar designation is preferred

  • In-depth knowledge of HTS classification, import valuations, and special trade programs
