Position Overview:

The Learning Experience Specialist is characterized by a fervent passion for employing innovative pedagogy and technology to enhance instructional design in virtual and live class settings for Ivey’s degree and non-degree programs. Taking on ownership and accountability for a spectrum of degree and non-degree initiatives, they utilize robust project management skills and technology insights to craft industry-leading virtual, hybrid, and live learning experiences for Ivey learners.
 
Engaging in collaborative efforts with subject matter experts (SMEs), Learning Experience Designers, and both internal and external Ivey customers, the specialist is responsible for generating learning materials such as graphics, videos, simulations, and interactive learning experiences. The creation of these learning experiences involves the application of tested instructional design theories, practices, and methods, encompassing activities such as gathering, scoping, building, testing, training, implementing, maintaining, and providing training to internal and external customers.
 
Tasks and projects are consistently delivered in a timely and accurate manner, demonstrating good judgment in flagging obstacles and offering observations for continuous improvement. The specialist also plays a pivotal role in gathering and analyzing market research, user data, and course feedback data to assess new and existing programs and projects, identifying critical areas for improvement across EdTech’s initiatives. They remain committed to ongoing research, staying abreast of modern learning design, technology, and accessibility principles, and recommending novel approaches to continually optimize Ivey’s delivery of business learning.
 
Functioning as a key strategic contributor to EdTech, they thrive in a highly experimental environment, collaborating with a diverse team across various learning channels and programs. Recognized as a problem-solver, partner, and trusted colleague to Learning Experience Designers and SMEs, the specialist actively contributes to maintaining EdTech Lab’s reputation as a knowledge hub for teaching innovations and best practices.

Responsibilities:

Develop, Produce and Implement Virtual Learning Experiences 

  • Work with faculty, Learning Experience Designers, CTS, or other stakeholders to develop courses, modules, or experiences for both the conversion of existing content and the deployment of new content into a blended learning environment; including design, build, quality assurance, and deployment activities.
  • Manage the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of digital learning tools – including e-learning platforms, video conferencing, and other related software ensuring each deliverable reflects educational requirements, pedagogical standards, and design expectations set out by SMEs and EdTech Lab.
  • Direct our video production team and graphic designers to produce multimedia learning assets. 
  • Work with SMEs to coordinate content assets and videos for instructor-led classroom and virtual learning products.
  • Review scripts, storyboards, learning content assets, and videos; ensure all materials are clear, concise, and consistent. Work with faculty, external contractors, and partners to coordinate logistics of design meetings and video recording. 
  • Build components of online activities, implement learning activities/tasks, construct summative/formative assessments, and develop digital content.
  • Ensure compliance of deliverables with all applicable standards, legislation, and regulatory requirements, including Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), WCAG, and applicable copyright and privacy legislation at a provincial and federal level of digital content. Conduct ongoing research to advance best practices for accessible learning. 
  • Liaise with internal EDI committee, faculty, and the Director of Culture and Inclusion to implement standards for inclusive learning content and environments.
  • Lead and create quality assurance processes and documentation for new and existing learning experiences to ensure accessibility standards are met and exceeded. Generate media and visuals to enhance learning experiences.

Testing, Quality Assurance, and Support to Interested Parties 

  • Review learning experiences at various stages of development to ensure that content flow is accurate, logical, and in alignment with established departmental norms and documentation. Evaluation criteria will be provided. 
  • Review, evaluate, and create documentation for learning design or management tools as assigned, and make recommendations for appropriate application.
  • Conduct user journey mapping to develop and improve customer onboarding and post-program learning sustainment.
  • Lead collection and cataloguing of data on user experience, evaluation/measurement, assessments, and internal program debriefs. Communicate and present key metrics to internal stakeholders and client teams. Lead collaboration with external e-learning partners and platform providers to maintain user accounts and security.
  • Create and manage a central database of learning content developed by EdTech.

Planning, Documentation, and Training 

  • Create and oversee training, documentation, and support processes for SMEs to enhance their course development and delivery using Ivey's educational technology assets. This includes providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
  • Generate and curate training resources on diverse learning platforms and associated tools, including conducting training sessions, setup assistance, and ongoing user support. 
  • Establish training processes and training programs to ensure the consistent application of brand standards and templates across all educational materials, offering guidance to faculty and SMEs in utilizing branded content effectively.
  • Organize and index storage and sharing of raw materials, photos, and graphic template files.
  • Plan and host faculty training workshops.
  • Curate and maintain optimized templates, and style guides for Ivey’s customized learning experiences allowing EdTech Lab team members to utilize while efficiently replicating piloted and approved learning solutions. 
  • Develop training documentation to assist with the development and delivery of courses.
  • Generate and maintain training material on a variety of learning platforms and related tools. This will include delivering training, set-up, and support use as required. 

Research and Special Projects

  • Research solutions meeting the requirements of learning design requests from faculty members, staff, and other content subject matter experts, prioritizing those native to LMS’ used at Ivey.
  • Conduct ongoing research to identify and evaluate new learning technology solutions, tools, and platforms. Work with Ivey EdTech to manage the implementation of new learning technology solutions and standards.
  • Represent Ivey at learning design and technology-related conferences. 
  • Lead or support special projects as required.

Qualifications: 

Education and Experience: 

  • Undergraduate degree in business or education; graduation from one of Ivey’s degree programs is considered an asset. Certificates in specific coding languages, learning design, and web accessibility are also an asset.
  • 2-4 years of work experience in UX design or e-learning design role attained through a combination of employment and educational experiences. Experience in the higher education sector an asset.
  • Knowledge of business fundamental theories and concepts; familiarity with Ivey (or similar institution) content and learning pedagogy would be an asset.   
  • Appreciation and understanding of UI/UX, graphic design, and/or front-end design is considered an asset. 
  • Experience with multimedia asset design, including graphics and videos using tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a highly experiential learning environment is considered an asset.
