About Us

The Department of Western Technology Services (WTS) is a central resource committed to support the teaching and research missions of the University by providing high-quality and cost-effective technology solutions and services to the campus community. WTS works collaboratively with other IT groups within Western’s faculties and support units, to leverage central supported technology solutions and services where it makes sense.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

The Switchboard Operator is a first point of contact at the University, and will be responsible for answering incoming calls, transferring callers to the requested person or extension, and assisting callers to identify the correct person or department.  The incumbent will provide excellent customer service and resolve general inquiries, by providing accurate and timely information regarding a variety of subjects based on memos, notices, Western's website, and other sources.  Accuracy of the online directory will be enhanced through the identification and reporting of changes, errors and omissions as they are discovered by the Switchboard Operator.

 

Education

Must be a full time student at Western (enrolled in minimum 3.5 courses), and expect to retain full-time student status for the duration of this appointment.

 

Experience

1 year in a customer service role

  • Understanding of Western's academic and administrative structure
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of the University community
  • Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Ability to create a positive impression while interacting with others and responding to inquiries, by telephone, in person or electronically
  • Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of general office procedures
  • Ability to prioritize and organize a fluctuating work load
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and resolve external and internal partner issues
