Position Overview

StarTech.com is seeking an immensely talented electronics-focused engineering manager to ensure the company remains a leader in the IT connectivity industry. The core focus of the Manager, Product Development is to provide leadership, supervise, and mentor the Product Development and Industrial Design team.

The Manager will be responsible for managing priorities, developing best practices, product performance standards, facilitate continuous improvement process to improve overall product quality, user experience as well as increase efficiency.

The Manager of Product Development is also responsible for executing on the product packaging, Industrial design, color, and logo guidelines developed by Marketing. The individual will also manage ongoing relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure the organization receives satisfactory standards of service.

In This Role You Will

  • Provide leadership to the Product Development team in the design, development, and testing of all new products.
  • Provide coaching and project management support to the team and help manage their day-to-day activities.
  • Aid PM team in formulating and/or enhancing the business plans, set development priorities across all categories, identify / resolve process and/or technical bottlenecks, creatively solves product design issues and improve time to market.
  • Manage ongoing technical relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure the organization receives satisfactory standards of service.
  • Work cross-functionally to define, develop, and maintain Product Requirement standards (templates) for key product family and SKUs to establish product performance positioning. This includes key differentiators at a SKU and category level such as features and benefits, architectural diagrams, key technical and compatibility specifications, primary usage applications, technical drawings, etc.
  • Execute on the industrial design standards on all NPI’s as well as key existing products.
  • Develop and enhance Product Development processes to establish product performance positioning as well as increase efficiency to improve overall time to market.
  • Develop training materials and conduct workshops to foster continuous learning and development.
  • Works cross-functionally and provide technical leadership in resolving major customer issues and/or product quality issues.
  • Attend trade shows, industry events as well as visit vendors (Asia, North America) to identify and/or execute on product opportunities.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering, Engineering Technologist, or equivalent
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience coaching, mentoring, and leading a multi-disciplinary Engineering team.
  • Previous hardware and/or embedded software/firmware development experience is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with high-speed electronic signal debugging using oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, and protocol analysis is desirable.
  • The ability to research and anticipate technology trends is essential in addition to understanding competitors and their ‘roadmaps’.
  • Excellent understanding of engineering principles (HW and SW) and design processes is a must. Strong problem-solving skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Growth mindset.

Location

This position can be remote but StarTech.com prefers candidates that can travel easily to Columbus OH or London ON. The role will also require 1-2 weeks of travel to Asia annually.
