The Roadmap 

The Software Development Manager role is focused on managing the workflow and employee performance of our Technical Leads and Software Developers. You will view completed work through an architectural lens and monitor the delivery and execution of your team. You will offer constructive feedback, guidance, and professional development opportunities to your team to effectively advance their professional and technical skills. You are self-motivated with a high attention to detail and expert knowledge of development best practices. This is a mid-management level role reporting to the Director, Technology. 

 

Performance Specs

  • Lead and support a high-performing team of Technical Leads and/or Software Developers belonging to a specific product portfolio.
  • Establish and maintain high standards of security, reliability, scalability, performance, and quality in all software.
  • Work closely with Senior Leadership and Product to review the product roadmaps, define strategic technology deliverables and ensure the delivery of milestones.
  • Help define and share information driving architecture, testing, development and deployment best practices across the platform.
  • Conduct 1:1s with your team members and arrange for training and/or mentoring sessions.
  • Complete performance reviews and create professional development plans based on individual career goals.
  • Work closely with Technical Leads and/or team members to prioritize your team’s objectives, communicate and enable the team to achieve sprint targets.
  • Resolve conflicts, and develop the best possible solutions within the budget and timeline constraints.
  • Ensure quality assurance for new and existing systems to deliver and maintain products and software of the highest quality.
  • Monitor daily stand-ups, report on progress and setbacks, and solicit feedback from team members and stakeholders.
  • Support technology resource planning to meet product roadmaps and technology objectives.
  • Participate in the recruitment process to effectively build the bench strength of your Software Development team.
  • Complete necessary paperwork for Software Developer interns and co-op students on your team.
  • Actively collaborate in product feature discovery, driving the refinement and working with product managers on prioritization of features in alignment with business goals.
  • Work alongside other technical managers to create and/or update software development processes and systems.

 

Preferred Mods

  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of work experience in a software related field.
  • 3+ years managing high performing development teams, preferably in SaaS.
  • Solid understanding of web client technologies, such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Solid understanding of the following: Linux, SQL, PHP, Node or Python.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to problem solve quickly and adapt to change.
  • Manages time extremely well.
  • Demonstrates strong personal accountability and the confidence to challenge decisions or direction when necessary

 

Performance Package 

  • Salary: $105,000-$120,000 per year
  • All – The salary range listed is for a Canadian employee. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.
