VP, People Operations

Reporting to the CFO, the VP, People Operations is an experienced results-oriented leader that drives managers and teams to produce high-performance results. You develop and drive the people strategy and programs by inspiring your team and stakeholders as we continue to grow and evolve as an organization. You are passionate about talent and building high-performance teams to enable future growth for our organization. You have experience leading Human Resources and talent Strategy across high-growth companies and have expertise in preparing and enabling organizations through periods of transformation and change including M&As. 

Key responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition: 

  • Design creative talent recruiting strategies with the ability to attract talent in a competitive technology environment where demand exceeds supply. 

Strategic Planning: 

  • Accountable for the company’s approach to managing people and teams.
  • Establish annual and multi-year strategic plans and ensure deliverables are achieved.
  • Provide fact-based guidance and innovative solutions on people issues including but not exclusive to: on-boarding, talent acquisition, career development, training and development, employee engagement & retention, talent management, and rewards and recognition.
  • Develop an HR strategic framework and vision for the Canadian region (and potentially the North American Region).
  • Develop and implement HR programs that solve business problems and directly contribute to major long-term business objectives. Integrate and adapt HR programs with new acquisitions and new company product expansion.

Talent and Performance Management: 

  • Be a trusted advisor, coach, and facilitator to meet the needs of talent development across all employee levels. Create a strategic talent framework that aligns the skills of the workforce with future business strategies and directions.
  • Create an employee experience plan that strengthens our company brand and values.
  • Develop the organization’s ability to attract, develop and engage their teams in order to achieve their functional objectives
  • Effectively leverage Performance Management systems and processes to drive clarity and alignment through the organization by bringing about good performance and talent management practices and a focus on metrics. 

Learning and Development: 

  • Conduct needs assessment and helps facilitate initiatives that fulfill evolving L&D needs. Research best practices and provide recommendations for learning solutions. Evaluate the impact and value of L&D investments.
  • Build focus around a culture of continuous learning and development. Reduce the skill gap in critical areas and technologies and create synergies between the organization and individual's learning needs and paths.

Compensation & Benefits: 

  • Analyze salary and benefits; maintain awareness of competitive market practice. Provide counsel to senior leadership and drive reward decisions to ensure a balanced and meritocratic based environment.

Change Management: 

  • oversee any significant organizational changes to ensure success in large-scale change efforts from a people perspective. Assess readiness levels, suggest potential risk mitigation actions, design communications plans, enrollment of key stakeholders, sponsorship, and championing of change.
  • Effectively leverage and educate management and staff on change management strategies.

HR Service Delivery: 

  • Identify opportunities to provide automated, efficient, system-enabled, and streamlined processes to elevate the employee experience.
  • Own HR Operations, Policy/Compliance, and Legislative requirements.

Supervision: 

  • Oversee the performance and development of direct reports. 
  • Provide guidance and feedback to members of shared teams.

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years as leadership experience in the tech sector
  • Minimum of 8 years in senior HR leadership positions
  • Post-secondary degree with an HR specialty or designation (eg. CHRL)
  • Significant experience in a leadership capacity during integration through M&A
  • Strong understanding of compensation models and long-term incentive plans to align all levels of the organization to long-term goals.
  • Experience in corporate communications, planning, and engagement activities.
  • Strong history of enabling leadership teams with process and metric orientation
  • Demonstrated ability to lead during change and transition, manage resistance and conflict effectively and create buy-in
  • Experience with full-cycle talent management programs including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and offboarding best practices.
  • Effective communicator in front of large groups– good listener, problem solver, influencer 
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills with a track record of recruiting, developing, and managing top talent to work cooperatively and effectively together
  • Strong experience in implementing and rolling out an effective organizational design
  • Ability to proactively build and foster relationships both internally and externally and to work cross-functionally at all levels of the company.
  • Passion to think outside the box and challenge the status quo to build a stronger business.
  • Ability to create, track and interpret key metrics to deploy better programs and solutions.
  • Experience in the technology sector or comparable industry dealing with aggressive competition for attracting and retaining talent.
