Summary of Duties:

Works under the direction and leadership of the Manager, Core and Cloud, the Core and Cloud Systems Administrator designs and implements system architectures according to identified parameters. This position acts as a central resource for requirements analysis and architectural review and provides escalation support for resolution of problems that span interconnected systems and involve other ITS teams.

Work Performed:

  • Under the direction of the Manager, gives advice and guidance to other ITS work areas that implement and support various systems; monitors and assesses enterprise service capacity and quality of infrastructure services; assesses high-visibility and/or impact and/or complexity of problems to accelerate resolution and to coordinate communication of impacts; contributes to and ensures completion of root cause analyses (RCAs); and integrates findings from RCAs into existing and future system designs.
  • Accountable for the daily reviews of operational functionality of the Core and Cloud areas of responsibility and its related alerting, programs, processes and/or practices for quality and effectiveness purposes. Makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Acts as an enterprise architectural resource in support of other ITS teams, and end users including internal and external users of City information systems to ensure optimal service level outcomes and supportability.
  • Provides instruction to new staff members in Core and Cloud procedures as well as other staff where required to support knowledge transfer in relational to Core and Cloud technical portfolio.
  • Oversee the administration, deployment, and maintenance of server and desktop systems, utilizing enterprise-grade tools and platforms to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Lead enterprise operating system servicing, deployment, and patch management, including security analysis and the implementation of remediation strategies, particularly in critical situations such as zero-day vulnerabilities.
  • Develop, manage, and administer backup and recovery solutions, ensuring robust disaster recovery capabilities and business continuity planning.
  • Administer and maintain physical data center infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and adherence to organizational standards.
  • Manage enterprise-level core infrastructure, including servers, storage solutions, and virtualization platforms, to support business operations and scalability.
  • Administer enterprise cloud-based tenants and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solutions, optimizing usage and ensuring secure, cost-effective operations.
  • Oversee the administration of the Enterprise Systems Center Suite, ensuring efficient system monitoring, reporting, and management.
  • Manage and deliver enterprise print server solutions to ensure consistent and reliable print services across the organization.
  • Performs special projects as assigned, including but not limited to coordinating core infrastructure initiatives with internal and third-party partners, participating in the timely resolution of emergency technology issues, and overseeing testing of system implementations and changes.
  • Participates in Core and Cloud team duties including all responsibilities and rotation expectations of the Corporate Information Security Response Team (CISRT).
  • Acts as technical lead for IT infrastructure projects from initiation to completion, including scope definition, project documentation, technical architecture, vendor collaboration.
  • Records and monitors device software versions and maintenance agreements, and coordinates and schedules patching and preventive maintenance efforts, to ensure the ongoing stability and security of core infrastructure.
  • Prepares operational reports and analysis related to core infrastructure performance, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations for improvement.
  • Performs information gathering, evaluation, review, and assessment of core infrastructure hardware, software, and service technologies, and recommends operational and project-based improvements.

  • Coordinates, and where appropriate creates and delivers, instruction and presentations for Core and Cloud team, other ITS team members, and other personnel.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of core infrastructure hardware and software technologies, through continuous formal and self-learning programs.
  • Liaises with third party solution providers, technical staff in government and other municipalities, internal personnel, auditors, and others to ensure core infrastructure technologies are designed, implemented, and operated in support of the secure, stable, and responsive operation of City information systems.
  • Accesses, and/or maintains sensitive passwords and elevated user rights to various Enterprise systems and data as assigned by management, ensures the confidentiality of information accessed through use of such credentials; ensure the appropriate tools and methods for secure delivery are followed.
  • Required to participate in related on-call and 24x7x365 support rotation requirements and coverage for mission critical services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Three-year Community College Computer Systems Technology Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

Over five years’ related experience.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

One or more of the following credentials would be an asset:

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Windows Server Hybrid Administrator
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
  • CommVault Command Center Professional
  • Project management certification

Compensation & Other Information:

$62,898 - $91,424 (Level 15)

This posting is for one (1) permanent full-time position.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Arrangement: Majority remote. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
