We are looking for a Senior Engineering Specialist.

 

What you will do:

 

  • Champion the transition to continuous, high velocity engineering delivery and automated deployment.
    using primarily cloud-based software provisioning, configuration management, source code 
    management and/or team collaboration applications which enable the business to produce products faster through delivery supply chain automation thereby delivering customer value.
  • Be a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Identify and resolve monitoring, maintenance and support of systems, services, tools, testing 
    methods, and software engineering initiatives.
  • Focus on innovative, currently unknown, solutions, migrating existing capabilities to the new digital stack, automating current processes & interfaces, and assisting in formalizing infrastructure standards across portfolios.
  • The incumbent will be expected to remain current with industry best practices and new techniques relating to software engineering and understands how to apply internally; in addition, must remain current with highly complex technology skills related to the portfolios they support through personal & professional development. Actively advocate for the application of this learning through implementation of new thoughts and patterns to the organization.?
  • Requires depth & breadth of technical, business, and organizational knowledge as well as experience across a variety of IT areas, including infrastructure, cloud, development, operations, security, and quality assurance.

 

Technical Delivery: ability to identify and resolve solutions and improve reliability, efficiency, and quality of software and systems.

 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scope and then accountable to design and 
    deliver modern solutions that are highly secure, compliant, resilient, cost-efficient, and 
    meet technical, security, and business needs for applications/workloads.
  • Proactively identify areas of friction in current deployment processes and drive technical 
    solutions to remove impediments.
  • Work with portfolio leaders to identify existing services to transition to new/existing digital 
    stacks to meet modernization goals of the portfolio.
  • Accountable for ensuring functional and non-functional requirements are met and 
    measurable in all environments.
  • Ensure alignment/adherence to Enterprise technology standards, vendor management 
    standards, and risk standards.
  • Manage risk and compliance in accordance with Canadian or Global standardsLeads the troubleshooting & resolution of problems to determine root cause andpossible solutions, requiring the identification and analysis of alternative courses of action,involving the development of new approaches, tactics, and initiatives.
  • Drive the resolution of incidents by resolver teams and 3rd party vendors

 

 Customer/Advisor Focus

 

  • Work with portfolio leaders to ensure technology capabilities align with current and futurebusiness needs.
  • Responsible for working and collaborating with customers to recommend iterations of practices, processes, methods, methodologies, and standards to improve custom outcomes/results/alignment.

 

Security & Risk

 

  •  Support design and implementation of solutions that comply to Canada Life’s cyber security, data security and overall risk appetite as well as regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively identify areas and opportunities to use modern application development techniques to enhance customer experience or organizationally within the business units.
  • Implement new practices and standards & provide feedback on their impacts.
  • Act as a point of contact for internal audit, oversee the creation and implementation of remediation plans

 

Collaboration & Leadership

 

  • Mentor & support team members in technical competency/skill building, technology direction, organizational acumen, challenging norms, priority setting.
  • Provides leadership to squads by ensuring the correct team of people is aligned to products, acting as a servant leader to ensure progress, removing blockers, and ensuring momentum to project completion.
  • Remains current with industry best practices and new techniques relating to software engineering and can synthesize new practices and techniques with internal business requirements and is able to advocate successfully for their adoption.
  • Maintains & enhances critical cross-functional relationships through mentorship, formalized training, one on ones etc.
  • Ensure the leadership team receives timely updates related to any critical outages with an appropriate level of detail.
  • Provide updates to appropriate stakeholders for internal or customer facing outages.
  • Reviews and approves documentation for program/projects

 

What you will bring:

 

  • Experience with Continuous Integration Delivery models, including. automation/infrastructure as code.
  • Knowledge of cloud network and cloud technologies.
  • Customer Centric thinking.

  • Problem Solving
  • 6 - 9 years Experience with IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS engineering and integration.
  • Think Outside the box and identify solutions to overcome obstacles.

The base salary for this position is between  $68,400 minimum - $117,000 maximum annually.  This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
