Job Summary

Payment Specialists calculate the average earnings basis for the purpose of processing timely lost time workers’ benefit payments while utilizing the applicable systems.

As a payment subject matter expert and as part of a provincial team, Payment Specialists review, analyze and respond verbally and in writing to enquiries from workplace parties and other WSIB staff. Payment specialists recommend solutions, while appropriately applying the necessary legislation, policy and processes.

Key Accountabilities And Responsibilities
  • Validate the accuracy of benefit payment authorizations and determine appropriate information needed when determining the earnings basis according to applicable legislation
  • conferring with Adjudication staff to determine appropriate course of action with respect to payments
  • provide detailed explanation of payment in memo format
  • consulting with the manager for complex payment problems
  • determining and monitoring cases that require a recalculation
  • calculating, prorating and ensuring funds are directed to appropriate payees
  • creating on-line payment transactions and adjustments and documenting required information
  • Provide specialized technical advice and assistance by:
  • providing knowledge and guidance for the application of payment matters related to policies and procedures
  • responding to requests for information from Adjudication staff, such as the correct application of benefit payment policies and procedures
  • responding to employer and worker enquiries related to correct application of benefit payment policies and procedures in appropriate cases
  • Document payment histories, provide benefit/payment status, and provide detailed written explanations in response to enquiries adhering to privacy guidelines
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned
     
Professional Requirements And Qualifications
  • High school completion
  • One year prior experience in financial/mathematical concepts
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and judgment skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize workload providing high quality customer service.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills in order to assess and interpret policy and complex calculations
  • Computer literacy including experience in MS office applications
