About Us

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University has ambitious goals, and raising philanthropic support to achieve these goals is critical. The School is looking for an exceptional development professional to oversee and direct the design of a multi-year strategy for the Major Gift program, outlining fundraising, alumni and communications objectives and activities to reach annual and long-term fundraising goals.

Responsibilities

The important role you’ll play, includes:

  • Creating a strategic framework and annual plan to meet fundraising goals.
  • Leading a dynamic team of development professionals.
  • Developing, managing and maintaining an assigned portfolio of prospects, which span individuals, corporations, and foundations to build a pipeline of 10-15 solicitations per year and achieve $1-3 million in financial targets annually.
  • Assuming responsibility for cultivating support from donors individually and/or in collaboration with the Executive Director, Dean, Decanal team, faculty and volunteers.
  • Conducting 96 personal visits annually to support fundraising targets.
  • Ensuring ongoing development of a robust pipeline to support annual fundraising targets and sustainable growth.

As our ideal candidate your qualifications include: 

  • University Degree, preferably in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or Public relations
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation 
  • 8 years' experience securing six and seven-figure financial agreements within the private sector or similar levels of major gifts in the charitable sector 
  • Experience leading a fundraising, or revenue generating portfolio towards multi-million dollar targets 
  • Experience with donor strategy development, implementation and evaluation 
  • Experience fundraising with a university or other complex non-profit environment would be an asset

Compensation and benefits
The Director of Development is a role within the Professional Managerial Association (PMA) at Western. The salary range starts at $77,000 up $130,000 for an exceptional candidate. The Director role provides a mix of time spent in the office, meeting with colleagues across our beautiful campus and traveling throughout Canada and around the world, meeting with donors, alumni and friends of Western.
