Finance Business Partner
London, ON, Canada
As a Finance Business Partner, you will be responsible for working alongside our Business Unit non-financial managers to develop and improve commercial and financial decision making in support of maximizing financial results. As a trusted advisor you will provide support and analysis to operations and management to add value to the business, influence day to day decisions, help shape strategy and the direction of the business.
What would a typical day look like?
- Build and maintain partnership with Ontario & Arkansas General Manager, the strategic leadership team, sales and the accounting team – become their trusted advisor to help manage their businesses and make effective financial and commercial decisions, including:
- Lead on financial and commercial matters
- Influence decision making
- Educate and improve the understanding of Financial Reporting and Business Unit performance.
- Deliver insight on business opportunities.
- Drive value through decisions to improve increasing revenue and bottom-line performance through efficiencies and business decisions.
- Provide options and scenarios to support business and commercial decisions in the Business Unit to ensure key operational, commercial, and financial targets are achieved.
- Lead business planning and strategy
- Bottoms-up financial planning including leading the annual budgeting process.
- Sales opportunity evaluation and support to ensure consistency with business strategy and financial targets.
- Lead and Enhance financial and operational forecasting.
- Revenue and profit
- Cost of sales and labor rate(s)
- Labor demand and capacity
- Sales funnel
- Lead and Develop financial analysis.
- Monthly income statement analysis including financial bridges from budget to actual
- Metric reporting
- Strong understanding of your general ledger and transactions posting within it
- Labor cost and rate(s) analyses
- Working capital analyses
- Financial bridges and waterfalls to better help illustrate performance
- Assist in evaluating different scenarios for business planning and strategies
- Lead and Develop project analysis
- Partner to Project Managers to help them understand financial profile and status of projects.
- Financial risk anticipation and mitigation
- Tracking and management of Project Financials including total estimated costs of each project
- Develop and present comprehensive financial analyses to project managers, enabling them to grasp the financial aspects of their projects with clarity.
- This includes creating detailed reports and visualizations that break down project costs, revenue, and profitability, utilizing advanced Excel functions such as pivot tables, power query, and VBA to ensure data accuracy and actionable insights.
- Generate regular recurring reports and analysis in both weekly and monthly cadences, drawing information from several different data sources. This could include ad-hoc report development as wells as regular structure reporting.
- Support the General Manager on weekly and monthly operational and financial metrics, Monthly Business Reviews (MBR), board presentation support, and other ad hoc items.
- Drive a cadence of meetings with Business Unit leaders:
- Weekly discussions around performance to KPI metrics, suggestions for improvement, seek to understand gaps to plan.
- Regular involvement with sales and applications engineering in proposal development relating to pricing and commercial matters, as well as advising on payment terms along with terms & conditions with customers.
- Attendance at team huddles to support the managers in discussions with their teams and address financial questions.
- Monthly financial review in detail
What qualifies you for this opportunity?
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in finance
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Proficient in utilizing data warehouse tools and technologies to gather, clean, and organize large and disparate datasets for meaningful insights.
- Adept at translating data warehouse information into actionable business intelligence, aiding in decision-making and performance improvement initiatives.
- Proficiency in MS Office
- We are seeking a candidate with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, capable of handling complex data analysis tasks including but not limited to creating pivot tables, utilizing power query for data manipulation, and writing VBA code to streamline processes. This expertise is crucial for our FP&A operations to ensure efficient and accurate financial reporting and analysis.
- Knowledge of project management and experience with project costing, accounting, and analysis
- Knowledge of Percentage of Completion accounting methodology (Preferred)
- Project Estimate At Completion methods and analysis (Preferred)
- Experience in an Engineered to Order or Engineering Services business (Preferred)
- Commercially aware, understanding and anticipating the needs of both operations and management
- Strong core business skills including influencing, stakeholder management and presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills working with individuals and building collaborative relationships
- Strong problem-solving skills, ability to interpret data and to present the findings to the relevant stakeholders in a clear and concise way

- Reliable transportation and an ability to travel; although this position requires minimal travel, you should have the ability to travel within US and Canada
Physical Demands:

Hybrid role with a strong focus on in-person collaboration
