Position Overview

The role of the Development Manager, Technical is to build and support the Development team in an effort to meet company revenue goals. This role is a cross between technical lead and people manager. We expect this person to have a strong background in development, who can still write code, contribute to projects, handle code reviews as well as facilitate deployment and other lead developer tasks. While also handling a team of direct reports as their people manager. This person cares about people, and how they are managed. They are motivating, passionate, empathetic and understand what it takes to get people excited about building great products.
 

Product Line 

This role will be working with the Race Roster and Runkeeper product. 

Work Location

The successful candidate for this role can be either a satellite employee (working 100% remotely from a designated location within Canada or US), a hybrid employee (flexibility to work in the office or from home at a location within 75km/75 miles from the London, ON/Boston, MA office), an in office employee at our London, ON/Boston, MA office.
 

Responsibilities

  • Grow the team via internal development of people as well a new hiring
  • Recruit, hire and train developers to achieve team goals
  • Work with product, infrastructure and QA teams to discover and implement the best solutions for our devs
  • Balance learning and experimentation with hitting company directives
  • Conduct one-on-one performance reviews on a regular basis 
  • Participate in cross manager discussions and calls
  • Plan and implement training programs as needed
  • Keep up to date with and maintain a thorough understanding of the Race Roster product offering
  • Facilitate cross departmental interactions
  • Stay up to date with infrastructure and architectural changes
  • Help document and organize processes and procedures
  • Help establish and implement development team directives and goals
  • Motivate, develop, inspire a direct reports
  • Analyze results and trends to direct future strategy 
  • Remove barriers for sales representatives
  • Unite the team and show empathy when appropriate
  • Handle conflict resolution or other incidents that occur on team
  • Meaningfully participate in diversity and inclusion initiatives across the ASICS Apps teams
 

Technical Responsibilities
  • Write code and help with support and implementation of product development
  • Understand security best practices
  • Coordinate and respond to security incidents with infra/security team
  • Do regular and complete code reviews
  • Help deploy code
  • Build out technical road map for team members
  • Work with leads, architects and teams to help communicate and understand technical vision
Experience
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Proven technical leadership using Caring and empathetic people management styles and philosophies
  • Experience in payment system, Saas or Ecommerce products
  • A dedication to quality control, security and product development best practices
  • Strong organization and data management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Bonus Education
  • Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate is preferred

The successful candidate for this role will become an employee of Race Roster North America Corporation (doing business as ASICS Apps Canada), a subsidiary of ASICS Corporation, a Japanese multinational corporation. Race Roster was founded in London, Ontario in 2011.
