Responsibilities

Western engages in extensive hiring of staff positions each year across our decentralized campus. The Human Resources Coordinator will carry out a broad range of human resources functions and facilitate the implementation of human resources practices, policies and programs to support Western in hiring the best possible talent. The role will support the Talent Acquisition team and the many hiring managers within the University with tasks across the recruitment continuum in alignment with Western's vision and values, using a fair and rigorous process. The Coordinator will prepare postings, schedule interviews, provide guidance and support to leaders with sourcing strategies and assessment methods, assist with projects, data management and statistical compilation, and provide responsive client communication.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree with a major in Business Administration, Human Resources, Industrial Relations or related field
  • Completion or working towards your CHRP designation is preferred

Experience:

  • 2 years’ experience in an administrative role supporting human resources functions
  • Experience in a unionized environment is preferred
  • Experience organizing and maintaining large volumes of data would be an asset 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Human Resources principles and practices, Employment Standards Act, and other relevant legislation
  • Communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action
  • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to evaluate information and make appropriate decisions or recommendations
  • Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
  • Discretion, tact and maturity to deal with highly confidential subjects or issues
  • Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
  • Adapts readily and effectively to changing priorities and demands
  • Ability to take responsibility for own work and ensure that deadlines are met and outcomes are achieved
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement, while being open to trying new ideas and working methods
  • Knowledge of Western collective agreements and employment policies preferred
