Position: Record Screening Operator, Administrative Support Branch, Support Services Division

Start Date: To be determined

Status: Temporary, Full Time (1)

Salary: $46,671 (Starting) to $73,328 (at 30 months)                                  


Position Summary:  

Record Screening Operators (RSOs) process background check requests submitted to the London Police Service (LPS) for employment, volunteer work, school placements, and adoption in accordance with provincial legislation. In addition to record checks, RSOs also complete requests for Non-Parent Custody Applications, Probation and Parole Board Clemency Requests, and Record Suspension Applications.

 

Record Screening Operators work closely with Intake and Processing Attendants by sending and receiving fingerprint results, addressing questions and concerns applicants may have with their record check results, and assisting at the public counter when required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate directly with members of the public regarding various applications including Criminal Record Checks, Non-Parent Custody Applications, Record Suspension Applications, and Clemency Requests from the Parole Board of Canada.
  • Ensure requests have been properly filled out, communicate with applicant to verify they qualify for the correct level applied for, verify that the application, position, and employer meet the RCMP requirements for the level of record check or application, and verify the correct fee has been paid for the application.
  • Conduct searches on the applicant on the appropriate databases including the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), the Police Information Portal (PIP), the RCMP National Repository of Criminal Records, and internal Record Management Systems.
  • Verify the information found is a match to the applicant, determine if fingerprinting is required, and send and receive print results to the RCMP.
  • Evaluate applicants with criminal records and inconclusive matches on the Pardoned Sex Offender database.
  • Monitor non-convictions on Vulnerable Sector Checks for exceptional disclosure.
  • List the appropriate results for the applicant based on the level of record check applied for, which may include convictions, outstanding warrants, charges, judicial orders, or sexual offence convictions for which the individual has received a record suspension.
  • Contact and obtain permission to release outstanding charges or judicial orders from other agencies.
  • Prepare documents for release by encrypting for secure download or seal and mail for release to the applicant.
  • Process all fees, issue receipts, and account for all moneys to be directed to Financial Services.
  • Complete and balance daily deposit.
  • Balance and process weekly report and submit to Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned within the core competencies.

 

Requirements

  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 6-12 months’ experience in customer service.
  • Problem solving skills and judgement required for problems, situations and responsibilities that are covered by standards, precedents, and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills for regular contact with colleagues and members of the public to give, obtain and/or exchange routine information or decisions requiring general discussion, and explanation to ensure understanding.

 

Benefits/Pension:

Temporary members receive ten percent (10%) of their hourly rate in lieu of benefits (after 120 calendar days) and are also eligible to join the OMERS Pension Plan upon their first day of hire.

 

Hours of Duty:

Day shift; Monday-Friday
