About Us

The Division of Housing and Ancillary Services (HAS) is committed to providing a first-class experience in the areas of Housing, Hospitality Services, and Retail Services for undergraduate/graduate students and their families as well as staff and faculties in the Western communities, while supporting the academic mission of the University and ensuring profitability and cost effectiveness of the operation.

HAS is made up of 490+ staff in Housing supporting our residences and off-campus housing; 800+ staff in Hospitality Services supporting dining and catering functions throughout campus; and 100+ staff in Retail Services supporting the Bookstore, Tech Hub, and Western Graphic Services. HAS also includes additional shared services to support these key functions and departments, including Marketing, IT, and Human Resources staff.

Responsibilities

The Human Resources Student is responsible for supporting human resources processes and delegated tasks as assigned by the Director, Human Resources, or designate. Responsibilities would include, but is not limited to:

  • Supporting the recruitment process for HAS staff, including screening applicants, participating in interviews, and performing reference checks
  • Scheduling interviews, coordinating logistics and preparing interview packages
  • Supporting onboarding processes, updating employee files, and filing and document organization
  • Responding to basic inquiries and providing timely resolutions, escalating where appropriate
  • Adhering to policies, procedures, regulations, and best practice as defined within the department
  • Effectively handling confidential and sensitive information in compliance with University policies and procedures and all privacy legislation and regulations
  • Providing administrative support for initiatives relating to workplace culture and workplace development as assigned
  • Providing administrative support for meetings, sessions, and services as required
  • Supporting other projects and tasks as assigned by the Director, Human Resources, or designate



Qualifications

Education:

  • Must be a currently enrolled, full-time Western University student intending to return for the 2026 Fall semester
  • Must be enrolled in a related program

 

Experience:

  • 1+ years of experience in an office setting is preferred

 

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Demonstrated resourcefulness with a strong sense of accountability and initiative
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating a friendly and approachable demeanor
  • Ability to remain calm, work well under pressure, and use good judgment in assessing difficult situations while knowing when to escalate
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of the team to achieve departmental goals
  • Ability to adhere to processes, procedures, and best practices
  • Ability to follow confidentiality requirements with regards to personal information
  • Ability to confidently and respectfully interact with a wide range of audiences, approaching conversations with tact and professionalism
