Salary Grade: 15

The base salary will be $70,560 - $100,680 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

Responsibilities

The Human Resources Specialist (Staff) provides professional human resources services across staff recruitment, employee relations, and HR operational programs within the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. The role is a subject matter expert delivering advice and guidance, implementing and interpreting University policies, collective agreements, and legislation, and supporting leaders and staff through compliant and consistent people management practices. This position contributes to effective workforce planning, risk mitigation, and high-quality HR service delivery in support of Faculty operations, as well as providing leadership on a variety of human resources projects within the School.

Qualifications

Education:
Minimum Required:
• Undergraduate Degree in Business Management/Administration, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Psychology, Labour Relations or relevant discipline
• Completion of, or working towards, Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation
• Professional courses in labour/employee relations, conflict resolution, risk management

Experience:
Minimum Required:
• 5 years of progressive experience as a Human Resources Generalist
• 2 years of experience providing human resources advising with direct accountability for human resources planning, recruitment, performance management, training and supporting employee data and documentation
Preferred:
• Certificate in Talent Acquisition or Labour Relations preferred
• Experience supporting the human resource function in a unionized environment preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• In-depth knowledge of Human Resources statutes, principles and practices and of the Employment Standards Act, and other relevant legislation
• Knowledge of technical and legislative issues related to employment and labour relations.
• Strong relationship builder with excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to work with a diverse community of faculty, staff, co-workers, and community members
• Business partner mentality with strong commitment to a client-service approach to handle inquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
• Curious, innovative and creative problem-solving skills, using sound professional judgment, during difficult and confidential/sensitive matters
• Well-defined sense of diplomacy, including conflict resolution and people management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to impact decision making through advising, mentoring and coaching at all levels of an organization
• Strong negation skills and the ability to influence decisions as a subject matter expert
• Ability to handle diverse and emotional situations, multiple projects and rapidly changing priorities
• Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple conflicting deadlines in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
• Excellent decision-making skills by drawing on professional learning, work experience and data analytics with the ability to make data driven decisions
• Proven ability to take initiative and champion a project from conception through implementation and evaluation to support continuous process improvement
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of the team to achieve departmental and Faculty wide goals
• Possesses a reputation for resourcefulness with a strong sense of accountability and initiative
• Intermediate computer skills in Word, Excel, data management, and HRIS systems management (PeopleSoft HR)
