Job Description
The Technical Counselor (TC) position represents the pinnacle of Info-Tech’s advisory services. A dedicated relationship between member and analyst that moves beyond general and industry best practices to practical customization and adoption in the unique context of the member’s organization.
The TC Analyst is expected to advise and assist their members by supplementing the best-in-class ITRG research with their own deep professional domain experience. Specifically in the areas around Contracting, Negotiation and Strategy, Vendor Management, IT Sourcing, and Project Portfolio Management. Where gaps in ITRG content are identified it is expected that the TC will help the member co-create the frameworks, processes, procedures, plans and other deliverables required for the member to succeed. The TC will then feed these deliverables back into the ITRG research process to enhance the overall product.
Outwardly the TC Analyst is expected act as a mentor, peer and confidant to their members and as a thought leader in their field. Inwardly, the TC should be the Voice of the Customer and an effective advocate for the enhancement of member experience. Be that evolution or products and services, brand new offerings or general/overall member experience.

Responsibilities:
- Strong ability to analyze and evaluate IT contracts with a strategic lens. Identifying key terms, assessing business and operational impacts, and translating complex legal and technical language into clear, actionable insights. Skilled in engaging stakeholders at all levels to discuss recommendations and drive informed decision-making.
- Support clients in developing and executing negotiation strategies, managing vendor escalations, and strengthening governance frameworks. Guide to mature Project Management Offices (PMOs) or Vendor Management Offices (VMOs), aligning operational practices with enterprise goals and industry best practices.
- Leverage our research to assist members through the process of executing projects or process improvements either remotely (working through a series of structured calls) or onsite (working through structured 5-day workshops).
- Provide measurable value to our clients through the various services provided: research, calls, and workshops.
- Contribute to Info-Tech’s Research Agenda planning activities by identifying trends in IT contracting and Vendor Management, proposing research topics, and developing research outlines and scoping documents.
- Develop technology content and articles for third-party media as part of Info-Tech’s PR activities.
- Deliver or co-deliver seminars in client events organized by Info-Tech Research Group, as well as partner events.
- Provide Technical Counsel and oversight exclusively to 18-22 clients within any 12 month period of time cultivated or assigned
- Evaluate members’ needs and work with them to set objectives and develop a strategy/work plan within the terms and conditions of the members’ agreement;
- Provide proactive thought leadership and new ideas not “asked for” on behalf of the client’s membership
- Participate in regular communication / support / education and participation with Sales Leadership and Account Directors to account planning and support efforts
- Leverage ITRG and 3rd party assets to deliver on promises within the memberships
- Diagnose member value expectations pain points and connect them with appropriate Info-Tech Research Group product solutions
- Build strong relationships with the clients peers and important stakeholders to provide experiences that are tailored to the clients objectives and culture.
- Demonstrated experience in Vendor Management and IT Contract Review.
- Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft or Oracle licensing, contracts and pricing preferred.
Experience:
- Undergraduate degree required (business or technology preferred) or equivalent experience.
- Excellent presentation skills and facilitation experience: client-facing workshops, training sessions, and consulting engagements.
- Strong relationship-building and management skills. Experience in gaining and maintaining a trusted advisor status with senior management and C-level executives.
- Minimum 15 years’ experience working within a large IT Vendor Management/Procurement/Program Management department or with an IT vendor or analyst firm.
- Certifications in an IT, Procurement, or project management-related topic, e.g., PMP, COBIT, ITIL, CTPE, are an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in Vendor Management, Change Management, and Program Management.
Skills:
- Understanding of the key management processes within an IT department.
- Proven expertise in leading global programs and managing complex, multi-million-dollar negotiations. Brings a strong background in governance and change management, with demonstrated organizational awareness and strategic thinking to drive impactful, enterprise-level outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience working in Vendor Management or IT Procurement/Global Program management.
- Demonstrated experience in Project Portfolio Management and program oversight.
- Strong client advisory and service delivery skills; the ability to lead clients through complex projects, build relationships and establish a reputation as a trusted advisor, and lead clients through structured working sessions.
- Prior experience in applying primary and secondary research, along with superior analytical and written communication skills, to produce high-quality research for our members.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
- Must be flexible and can travel (25-50%) to deliver workshops onsite at client locations both within and outside of North America. Must be eligible to obtain TN Visa for work with US clients, unless you are a US resident.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be available for after-hours call booking
- Bilingual proficiency in French, Spanish or German is good to have to support our diverse client base across North America and globally.
