Position Purpose 

The Director, Research – US Government is a consulting-style research and advisory role that combines analysis, writing, and direct engagement with public sector leaders. You will examine how municipal, state, tribal, and federal organizations approach modernization, cybersecurity, procurement, digital services, and governance. You will translate these findings into practical frameworks, models, and guidance that help government leaders make better decisions. 

You will work across many different government organizations, synthesizing patterns and facilitating structured conversations to guide public sector clients through complex challenges. You will thrive if you enjoy research, problem framing, consulting-style analysis, and advising leaders through short, high-impact interactions.

What you will do, includes, but not limited to: 

Research & Analysis 
  • Conduct comparative research on public-sector technology issues including modernization, cybersecurity, digital identity, procurement, service delivery, and citizen experience.
  •  Interview government leaders, vendors, and stakeholders to surface patterns and sector insights.
  •  Develop repeatable frameworks, methodologies, and decision tools that simplify complex technology and policy challenges.
  •  Track emerging trends such as cloud adoption models, AI in public services, open data practices, and cross-agency collaboration.
  • Convert findings into clear, concise written research for a practitioner audience.
 Advisory Calls with Clients  
  •  Lead one-on-one advisory conversations with government CIOs, IT directors, program leaders, and policy teams.
  •  Apply Info-Tech research to client-specific contexts, offering structured recommendations and alternative pathways.
  •  Support clients in problem framing, prioritization, operating model questions, procurement strategy, and modernization planning.
  •  Identify new research opportunities based on emerging client needs. 
 
Workshop Facilitation         
  •  Facilitate collaborative workshops that guide government teams through assessments, frameworks, and planning tools.
  •  Help participants evaluate trade-offs, clarify constraints, and articulate citizen-centered outcomes.
  •  Produce clear workshop outputs including roadmaps, governance models, or decision matrices.
  •  Support methodological improvements to the workshop library.
 
Cross-Departmental Collaboration & Support  
  •  Collaborate with Advisory, Research, Marketing, and Events teams to support integrated client delivery.
  •  Contribute sector expertise to webinars, roundtables, and public speaking engagements.
  •  Share insights to strengthen Info-Tech’s presence in the US public sector.

  •  You build recognizable thematic expertise in public sector IT strategy, modernization, or digital government.

 

To be successful, you will need:

Required Experience
  •  5-10 years of experience in public sector consulting, advisory services, technology policy, or research (e.g., IT consulting, management consulting, public policy research, digital government programs, or cross-agency technology initiatives).
  •  Experience supporting or advising government organizations such as cities, counties, states, tribal nations, or federal agencies.
  •  Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technology or policy issues and translate them into clear, structured outputs.
  •  Experience in facilitation, stakeholder engagement, interviewing, workshop delivery, or client advisory support.
Preferred Experience
  •  Exposure to public sector technology domains such as modernization, procurement, cybersecurity, governance, digital services, or data strategy.
  •  Experience building models, frameworks, assessments, or toolkits.
  •  Published research, white papers, issue briefs, or thought leadership content.
Education & Certifications
  •  Bachelor’s degree in public policy, Public Administration, Political Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related fields.
  •  Master’s degree or professional certifications (ITIL, PMP, COBIT, CGCIO, CPMP, etc.) are an asset.
  • Travel Requirement: Must be flexible and have ability to travel periodically to deliver workshops onsite at client locations both within and outside of North America. 
  • Visa Requirement: Must be eligible to obtain appropriate work Visa for cross-border work within North America and globally.   
  • Work Hours Requirements: Must be available for after-hours work periodically to service APAC clients. 
  • Language Skills: Bilingual proficiency in French, Spanish or German is strongly preferred to support our diverse client base across North America and globally.
