Position Type: Full-time, 3-year renewable contract.

Hiring Range: $63,800-$79,700.

The Finance team is responsible for managing the Ivey Business School’s financial resources and ensuring fiscal responsibility. This includes budgeting, financial reporting and analysis, working capital management, and compliance. The Finance team plays a central role in the academic mission of the school by ensuring sound financial management, effective resource allocation and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Sr. Financial Analyst assists in providing timely and accurate financial information for the Ivey Business School at Western University (IBS). Leads the preparation of the annual budget, quarterly forecast, financial reports, and variance analysis. Ensures proper recording in the books of account for timely and accurate financial information. Prepare general journals, balance sheet account reconciliation and month/year-end working papers, as required, in timely and accurate manner for IBS.

 

Responsibilities:

Prepare Financial Budgets, Forecasts, and Variance Analysis

  • Lead the preparation of the budget templates, forecast, and annual budget process.
  • Review department results against budget and variance reporting. 
  • Meeting with department leads to explain and understand variance analysis and accurate forecast future spend.
  • Prepare and distribute financial statements and budget templates.

Research Accounting and Special Fund Reporting

  • Work with Research Office to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements and weekly fund balance reports to relevant individuals
  • Review fund balances to ensure compliance with university policies and prepare journal entries where required

Review and Approve Expense Claims and Payroll Related Documents 

  • Understanding of university policies and procedures
  • Liaison with Western main campus to ensure to problem solve policy questions
  • Final review of expense report submissions to ensure budget and policy compliance. 

Tuition Reconciliation

  • Monthly/Quarterly reconciliation of tuition balances between Ivey Business School accounting records and Western Registrar records
  • Prepare analysis to review with Program Office to explain discrepancies to budget and potential errors.
  • Review results with Director of Finance

Financial Modelling and Financial Projects

  • Work alongside the Director of Finance to complete special financial projects.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes.

General Journals, Balance Sheet Account Reconciliation and Working Papers

  • Preparation of general journal entries
  • Balance sheet account reconciliation and month/year end working papers as required.
  • Ad hoc report creation based on departmental demands

Other

  • Act as backup for Senior Financial Analyst, Payroll and other finance department staff as required.
  • Bank deposit and reconciliation as required
  • Organizing filing system for easy access to information.

 

Qualifications: 

Education & Experience

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent designation) or a finalist in the CPA program of study.
  • University degree in related discipline.
  • Financial modelling experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in varied accounting functions

Skills & Abilities 

  • Strong business acumen, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong MS Excel Skills (expertise with advance formulas such as Power Query, xlookup, pivot tables, charts, and data tables, etc.), Office, and accounting software Strong fundamental knowledge of financial and accounting principles
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and follow directions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability of working in a team.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Professionalism and diplomacy; sensitivity in working with confidential information.
