Job Description
Senior Engineering Manager with a desire to build great products
Trackunit is seeking a stellar Senior Engineering Manager to join our growing engineering team.
You will lead two software engineering teams composed of frontend, backend, data and external engineers. Together, they develop and maintain software applications that enable over-the-air (OTA) access to construction machinery via our IoT Devices. The teams are currently focused on building two exciting new features: FOTA and remote commands. Our teams are building on top of our extendable platform, Trackunit Iris, which is also available to our customers.
You will be a part of a cross-functional leadership team that includes other Engineering Managers as well as Product Managers and Designers. Together you are responsible for all aspects of the product areas within strategic product initiatives, including setting the direction and communicating on current status and plans.
With our main Canadian hub in the heart of London, Ontario, we offer a flexible setup - giving you the option to work from our London hub or remotely in Ontario. That said, we do expect you to be present at the London hub on a regular basis.
Why you should choose Trackunit
- Opportunity to work in an agile product organization, leading a highly skilled software engineering team with software developers, crafting our OTA offerings.
- Be part of an innovative community in an agile, growth SaaS business with a scale-up mentality where you have the opportunity to shape the future of our project implementations.
- We take your personal and professional development goals seriously, and we support them through training, coaching, and mindfulness, as well as with an open feedback culture to enable you to identify your strengths and opportunities. We do this by touching upon your impact on our triple focus: impacting yourself, impacting teams/relations, and impacting the organization/strategy.
- Flexibility and hybrid working are not just a cliché to us or something we state in a job posting. We offer you a flexible setup and believe that you can best structure your routines. Once you have chosen how you work best, let us know what you need: we've got you covered with the IT equipment you need for your work.
- Turning the Tide. At Trackunit, we aim to create and contribute to an inclusive workplace. This effort starts with our hiring - we do not discriminate based on gender identity, sexual orientation, personal expression, ethnicity, religious belief, or disability status. We only assess candidates on their qualifications and merit. Learn more about TIDE and other DE&I initiatives here.
Who are you ideally?
- Experience in leading and technically guiding software development teams, with the ability to operate effectively across multiple initiatives or areas.
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment, and strive for high performance while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
- Feel at home in an agile environment where your team is responsible for how useful our features are in the hands of our customers.
- You have a heart for people and want to develop further in a people leader role. At Trackunit, we believe that through self-awareness and consciousness about how you are impacting others, you are becoming a better people leader.
Don't meet every single requirement? That’s fine! If you are interested in this role but your past experience doesn't align completely with every qualification, we encourage you to apply.
Every day is different, but you can expect to:
- You’re a people manager. You inspire, lead, and motivate team members to see their full potential and you will get energized from this.
- Facilitate the development process from planning to demos and more through retrospectives.
- Facilitate the ideation and definition of new features. We often co-create with our customers and take pride in breaking down complex problems into software that is easy to use.
- Define and maintain the strategic direction for your team in close collaboration with product management.
- Over time, you will be an advocate for The Trackunit Way - which is our take on how to lead people and develop products in a fast-growing SaaS company.
What happens from here - overview of the recruitment process
Don't waste your time on writing a remarkable cover letter for the job. We want you to create an impact that matters, and that's not in the cover letter.
- Virtual meet and greet. Meet with our Senior Director of Engineering, Mo, who will also be your leader, and a relevant colleague.
- Personality-based interview. You will be asked to fill out an online personality assessment using use Hogan prior to the interview. There are no correct answers and no "truth" - the aim is a dialogue about the results and Trackunit’s culture, so you’ll get to know us better as well.
- Assignment-specific interview. We want you to get an insight into some of the concrete work tasks or activities related to the role. You will be given a case to prepare prior to the interview, and at the interview, you will present the case to relevant colleagues from across Trackunit, who you’ll also work closely with in the job.
- Offer presentation and walk-through. We’re lucky to have you!
