Job Description

The Technical Writer is mainly responsible for creating technical documents and other publications in a way that will communicate complex information in non-technical language. By gathering and disseminating technical information among customers, internal SMEs and the Production Team, the Technical Writer will ensure the accuracy and relevance of the deliverables and improve the end-user experience.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Write, edit, and revise technical documents and publications, such as release notes, for end-user activities.
  • Own the Help, Best Practices, and Knowledge Base, and manage backlog of necessary changes to the documents.
  • Retrieve, organize, analyze, and synthesize subject matter and transform it into task-based technical documentation.
  • Create various deliverables (PDF, Help, etc.) using various authoring and desktop publishing software tools.
  • Deliver accurate, relevant, and timely documentation for a variety of audiences.
  • Continuously identify the end-user’s need of technical documentation and create supporting documents as needed.
  • Produce software documentation while adhering to the internal style guidelines.
  • Provide copy-editing and proofreading support for colleagues upon request.
  • Assist the Business Development team with writing grant proposals or RFPs upon request.
  • May be asked to provide additional duties in other areas.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Minimum of College Diploma in journalism, English, communications, or related discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in technical writing in the software industry
  • Experience with the documentation life cycle for a commercial software
  • Background knowledge in computer science or software-related discipline will be an asset.
Skills & Aptitudes
  • Exceptional attention to details and organizational skills
  • Technical editing skills with proven experience with copy-editing and production editing
  • Ability to analyze, categorize, and organize information
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Good knowledge of Adobe FrameMaker and structured documentation
  • Experience with Help authoring tools such as RoboHelp
  • Familiarity with DITA or other industry-standard documentation schemas
Environment & Physical
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Be able to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • No regular travel requirement unless otherwise requested
