We are looking for a Director, Technology Risk, Resiliency and Recovery

 

The Director, Technology Risk, Resiliency and Recovery will partner with key stakeholders in executing proactive and effective Technology risk and resiliency management practices including Disaster Recovery (DR) across the Canada Technology organization, helping Technology teams embed a risk and resiliency management culture into delivery, support and operations that enables business objectives.  This role will also lead the development, design, execution and maintenance of the Resiliency and Recovery practice area for Canada Technology.

 

Working closely with the AVP, Operations, this role will be responsible for strengthening our technology resiliency testing; ensuring that technology resiliency risks are clearly understood, testing and controls are implemented to mitigate those risks and continuous monitoring is established to ensure recovery effectiveness.

 

What you will do 

  • Contribute to the evolution of Canada Life’s technology operations management strategy and operating model
  • Support the Technology Risk & Control identification process across Infrastructure and Operations of Canada Life
  • Partner with Security, Risk and Compliance in conducting risk assessments and managing technology risks for Infrastructure and Operations
  • Provide extensive subject matter expertise in resiliency and recovery (DR) and key technology risk management area within technology operations.
  • Act as the key point of contact for all Resiliency and Recovery (DR) related matters across Canada Technology
  • Establish and oversee the coordinated recovery testing work plan that includes:
    • ensure the existence of technology application recovery architecture (ARA), cluster recovery plans (CRP) and application recovery plans (ARP)
    • providing guidance for new CRPs/ARPs
    • establishing testing approaches and schedules to ensure minimum testing activities are occurring
    • exercising and testing of recovery plans (tabletops, failover, etc.) to ensure that recovery of applications meet the defined RTO/RPO objectives
  • The development, design, execution and maintenance of the Disaster Recovery practice area for Canada Technology
  • Manage ongoing monitoring and enforce compliance with recovery policies and standards across Canada Technology
  • Support Line 2 in their review and challenge of 1st line risk processes
  • Foster, advocate fdx`    1or, and strengthen Canada Life’s overall technology risk posture
  • Build and maintain a backlog of technology risk remediation work supported by a governance lifecycle and the implementation of management tools supported by technology
  • Establish, support, and streamline resiliency and recovery technology risk reporting and metrics
  • Lead a team of technology risk practitioners to achieve and surpass personal and team objectives

What you will bring 

  • 5+ years of experience in a similar technology risk leadership position
  • 5-10 years of experience in the financial services industry (or other regulated industry)
  • 8-10 years of progressive experience within the areas of technology risk, compliance, business continuity, disaster recovery or governance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Technology, or equivalent experience
  • Strong Understanding of technology risk regulatory, and industry best practice (COBIT, NIST, ISO standards, etc.)
  • Business Continuity professional accreditation / certification is an asset
  • Proven ability to identify, analyze and translate risk in the context of what it means to achieving business objectives
  • A “continuous improvement” mindset
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated capability to build and foster strong relationships through collaboration, influencing change, and building consensus
  • Constant learner and passion for technology and risk governance
  • Deep understanding of how large enterprise organizations work, within in a regulated environment
  • Excellent track record of leading and developing high performing teams
  • Experience with ServiceNow GRC, Fusion or other GRC platforms is an asset
