About Us

The Department of Western Technology Services (WTS) is a central resource committed to support the teaching and research missions of the University by providing high-quality and cost-effective technology solutions and services to the campus community. WTS works collaboratively with other IT groups within Western’s faculties and support units, to leverage central supported technology solutions and services where it makes sense.

Responsibilities

The Technical/Research Support 1 will be responsible for carrying out research functions in collaboration with principal investigators, staff, and students.  The incumbent will maintain equipment, order supplies,  set up and conduct tests and experiments in adherence with prescribed procedures.  The incumbent will maintain records, and analyze, summarize and compile data and results for dissemination.

Qualifications 

Education:
-   College diploma in an information technology field or a university degree with a
minor in an information technology field

Experience:
-   1 year experience providing technical support and customer service (experience in higher education field preferred)

  • Applies new knowledge and skills to practical use on the job; furthers learning through experience in practicing new approaches and behaviors
  • Strong customer service skills to handle inquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
  • Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service directly and indirectly to satisfy those expectations
  • In depth Knowledge of computer system administration, including computer networks, operating systems, and application software
  • Basic knowledge of email delivery technologies such as SPF records
  • Basic knowledge of VoIP telephony technologies
