Position Overview

As a Mobile Developer you will be responsible for code feature enhancements and bug fixes for the Runkeeper mobile applications. You will be relied upon to monitor the Runkeeper mobile applications for issues. Day to day, you will be responsible for taking product requirements from various Runkeeper stakeholders and translating them into working high quality software that meets user needs. This position requires flexibility as we respond to new business and customer requirements, while being able to quickly adapt to new strategies and priorities as they evolve.

This position is open to internal and external candidates.

Product Line 

This role will be working with the Runkeeper product.

Work Location

The successful candidate for this role can be either a satellite employee (working 100% remotely from a designated location within Canada). Or, a hybrid employee (flexibility to work in the office or from home at a location within 75 km/45 miles from the London, ON office).


  • Attend and participate in scrum meetings
  • Create and own investigatory spikes and drive them to completion
  • Be familiar with at least one code base or platform
  • Execute on medium sized projects 
  • Participate in the response to emergency production issues of the Runkeeper mobile applications
  • Contribute to the release of a new Runkeeper mobile app version to the app stores by ensuring all code is in the release candidate, triaging regression bugs, pushing the release to the app store live, posting release monitoring for crashes and organizing hotfixes
  • Work with Quality Assurance (QA) and other stakeholders to test new features and bug fixes to the Runkeeper mobile applications
  • Write user stories for the product backlog
  • Document technical decisions and approaches
  • Participate in internal tech talks
  • Participate in code reviews of team member code
  • Participate in technical design discussions
  • Communicate status of individual projects and team projects to internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in the onboarding of new Runkeeper Engineering team members
  • Technical ownership of and advocating for code refactors/updates
  • Conducting demos to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure Jira tickets are clear, correct, and complete. Communicating blockers or issues with their Jira ticket to other pod members 
  • Participate in identifying and resolving blockers, escalating to senior developers or development managers when necessary
  • Help ensure that minimal tech debt is created during development and that the quality of code meets the standards set forth by the Runkeeper Engineering team
  • Keep current on new technologies and tools, always thinking about how those can be applied to solve existing problems or reduce friction in the development process
  • Meaningfully participate in diversity and inclusion initiatives across the ASICS Apps teams 
  • Complete lead responsibilities for a period of time as required and when assigned by your Manager
    • Working across pods
      • Work collaboratively with all pods, leveraging Senior and Principal Mobile Developers to help anticipate what other pods are working on. Raising awareness to more senior developers and management of possible merge conflicts, duplicated efforts, or rework across pods
    • Scoping of work
      • May participate in scoping of work including pure technical initiatives the team implements
      • Work with Senior and Principal Developers to decompose any sized initiatives that span one or more pods
      • Raise staffing issues with Engineering Managers and consult peers on the work the pod is completing
    • Jira Management
      • Accountable for Jira Management, ensuring bugs are triaged, consult with team on priority of bugs and delegate bug fixing 
      • Work with product owners to ensure product backlog in jira is prioritized and groomed
      • Ensure individual contributor developers have created subtasks, jira data has correct fix in release and the kanban board is up to date with the state of work throughout the sprint
    • Team Member Growth/Learning
      • Accountable and responsible for making sure that work is assigned to the team correctly, helping other team members with their code if needed, providing guidance on coding best practices and new technologies/techniques on a case by case basis
    • Technical Delivery
      • Accountable for all the code written in the pod, will contribute and delegate code writing to other team members
      • Accountable for making sure that any technical documentation is created and updated, making sure that any design review meetings that need to occur, happen and that the team gives design feedback, making sure PR’s are reviewed in a timely manner. 
      • Owns technical decisions made in the pod in consultation with engineering managers and architects

Education & Experience

  • Competent in developing native mobile applications for iOS and/or Android platforms, including good knowledge of the programming languages, frameworks, and tools used in mobile development
  • Experience in implementing complex mobile applications with a good understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices
  • Good understanding of core computer science concepts, algorithms, data structures, programming paradigms and computational complexity
  • Able to collaborate with other stakeholders, such as product managers, designers, and quality assurance engineers, to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality mobile applications
  • Have experience working in an agile development environment, including expertise in agile methodologies like Scrum and Kanban

  • Able to analyze complex problems and find innovative solutions to ensure that mobile applications are of high quality and meet the needs of end-users
