Technical Counselor - Applications
 

Position Purpose
 

The Technical Counselor provides advice and counselling services to Info-Tech’s members by providing measurable value, improving client strategy, processes, subject matter knowledge, and organizational capabilities around application development, application portfolio, and enterprise applications. The Technical Counselor contributes ideas for Info-Tech’s research agenda, and enriches Info-Tech’s research content tailoring it specifically to the Technical Counselor seat holders. The Technical Counselor presents our methods and frameworks at Info-Tech and partner events.
 

Duties & Responsibilities
 

  • Provide Technical Counsel and oversight exclusively to 10-18 clients within any 12 month period of time cultivated or assigned
  • Provide proactive thought leadership and new ideas not “asked for” on behalf of the client’s membership
  • Participate in regular communication / support / education and participation with Sales Leadership and Account Directors to account planning and support efforts
  • Leverage ITRG and 3rd party assets to deliver on promises within the memberships
  • Diagnose member value expectations pain points and connect them with appropriate Info-Tech Research Group product solutions
  • Build strong relationships with the clients peers and important stakeholders to provide experiences that are tailored to the clients objectives and culture.
  • Create technical executable roadmaps with clients to meet their practice strategy and expectations
  • Analyse and recommend improvements to application portfolio architectures, application patterns and configuration proposals.
  • Work with the Enterprise Research Team on Info-Tech most important accounts on custom engagements related to portfolio architecture, application architecture, application strategy and other application related advice.
  • Provide measurable value to our clients through the various services provided: research, calls, and workshops.
  • Contribute to Info-Tech’s Research Agenda planning activities by identifying trends in enterprise applications and application development.
  • Develop technology content and articles for third-party media as part of Info-Tech’s PR activities.
  • Deliver or co-deliver seminars in client events organized by Info-Tech Research Group, as well as partner events.
  • Evaluate members’ needs and work with them to set objectives and develop a strategy/work plan within the terms and conditions of the members’ agreement;
  • Leverage our research to assist members through the process of executing projects or process improvements either remotely (working through a series of structured calls) or onsite (working through structured 5-day workshops).


 

Education & Experience
 

  • Undergraduate degree required (business or technology preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent presentation skills and facilitation experience: client-facing workshops, training sessions, and consulting engagements.
  • Strong relationship building and management skills. Experience gaining and maintaining trusted advisor status with senior management and C-level executives.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience working within a mid to large IT procurement/sourcing department or with an IT vendor or analyst firm.

Skills
 

  • Understanding of the key management processes within an IT department.
  • Demonstrated experience working in an application centric management or architecture role.
  • Expert knowledge of application portfolio management and application rationalization techniques.
  • Expert knowledge of the application development lifecycle.
  • Experience working in organization in with a product centric or service centric view on the application landscape.
  • Expert knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD and modern application development techniques
  • Expert knowledge of iterative development methodologies such as SAFe, Agile, and Kanban.
  • Strong client advisory and service delivery skills; the ability to lead clients through complex projects, build relationships and establish reputation as a trusted advisor, and lead clients through structured working sessions.
  • Prior experience in applying primary and secondary research, along with superior analytical and written communication skills, to produce high-quality custom deliverables for our members.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Must be flexible and have ability to travel (25-50%) to deliver workshops onsite at client locations both within and outside of North America. Must be eligible to obtain TN Visa for work with US clients, unless you are a US resident.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
