Role Summary:
Huron Library and Learning Services is seeking a dynamic and motivated Manager of User Services to oversee the daily delivery of user-centered library services. This position plays a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of frontline services while fostering a high-performing and innovative team culture among part-time student staff and the full-time Coordinator of Resources & Services. The Manager, User Services will collaborate with campus partners and work within local and provincial library networks to support student learning, teaching excellence, and research.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Service Coordination: Lead the planning, delivery, and assessment of frontline library services to address the research, learning, and study needs of the Huron community.
  • Course Readings Program Coordination: Lead, support, and coordinate the Library’s Course Readings Program, collaborating with faculty to gather and ensure the appropriate materials are collected and made available for courses.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor a team of 10-12 part-time student staff and one full-time Coordinator, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and accountability.
  • Staff Development: Design and implement training programs to ensure all staff receive continuous professional development.
  • Operational Management: Oversee daily public service operations, including document delivery, collections management, and maintaining a clean, safe learning environment.
  • Collaboration: Partner with other library and campus staff to provide seamless access to library resources, services, and spaces.
  • Committee Representation: Represent Library & Learning Services on committees and working groups (local, Huron, Western Libraries) that impact customer service, library space usage, or access to the library's physical collection.
  • Service Enhancement: Continuously assess and improve library services based on user feedback, emerging trends, and best practices in customer service.
  • Policy Oversight: Support the development and implementation of policies related to frontline library services to ensure they align with institutional goals.
  • Data Analysis: Generate regular reports on library usage, service delivery, and resource management to track trends and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Social Media Management: Collaborate with other Library staff to lead and manage all social media initiatives, promoting library services and engaging with the community.


Qualifications:

  • Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) degree from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Undergraduate degree in the liberal arts is preferred.
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in a post-secondary or academic setting.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ supervisory experience, preferably in a public service environment.
  • Knowledge of Library of Congress classification system and Library of Congress Subject Headings.
  • Familiarity with integrated library management systems, MS Office suite, and other operating and supporting library systems and technologies.
  • An understanding of best practices, programs, and models related to career development and internship programs for post-secondary students.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to respond to inquiries with diplomacy and tact.
  • Exceptional and well-honed customer service skills to represent Huron professionally in all interactions.
  • Leadership skills with a track record of building and leading teams to achieve organizational and individual goals.
  • Strong judgement, analytical, and problem-solving skills to work collaboratively and in consult with others to address underlying issues and identify opportunities and solutions.
  • Excellent time management skills and a demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and eager to identify new opportunities.
