Responsibilities
The Human Resources Assistant (Staff and Faculty) will be responsible for supporting a range of human resources activities within the Faculty of Education. Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Administration, the role will provide administrative support for all faculty and staff, both full-time and contract, as well as for various Centres, throughout the Faculty of Education. The Human Resources Assistant will support the Administrative Officer and Faculty Affairs Coordinator in all aspects of human resources functions in compliance with Western policies, procedures, collective agreements and government legislation. The role will act as a resource and provide support, information and guidance related to human resources practices in compliance with Western policies, procedures, collective agreements and government legislation. The Human Resources Assistant will assist in the identification, analysis and resolution of issues using a range of criteria and guidelines.

Qualifications
Education:

3 year Community College Diploma with a major in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field
Experience:

More than 4 years and up to and including 6 years administrative experience supporting human resources functions; in a unionized environment preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Familiarity with Human Resources principles and practices
Knowledge of Western collective agreements and policies impacting staff preferred
Familiarity with the Employment Standards Act, and other relevant legislation
Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
Communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with all levels of the organization
Verbal and written communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action
Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
Ability to apply critical thinking to evaluate information and make appropriate decisions or recommendations
Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
Discretion, tact and maturity to deal with highly confidential subjects or issues
Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to plan and manage events of various sizes
Ability to prioritize and organize a fluctuating work load
Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
