Installation Surveyor
 

Start.ca is looking to add a talented Installation Surveyor to join our Fibre team.  The Installation Surveyor is responsible for reviewing residential and business customer sites, and determining the optimum route for the fiber optic feed to the premises.  The Installation Surveyor will also be required to review and optimize the in-building fiber route at business customer locations. The Installation Surveyor will often be required to deal with customers to reach a solution for the fiber feed that meet the customer’s expectation, but also meets Start’s technical standards. Along with the responsibilities and requirements specific to this role, the successful candidate is also expected to abide by and encourage Start’s Code of Conduct, helping to strengthen our trusting and positive work environment.

What you’ll be doing:

Conduct on-site surveys and inspections to determine the optimum aerial or buried route for the installation of a fiber optic cable from the Start network to the residential or business premise.
When required, conduct in-building surveys and inspections to determine the optimum route within the building to run the fiber cable from the service entrance to the desired termination location.
Liaise with customers to answer questions, obtain site work approvals, and reach consensus or resolve any disputes regarding the installation work.
Upon completion of the site surveys, record photographs and prepare a site sketch showing the pertinent installation details so that the installation crews can complete the installation work.
Liaise with the Start installation crews to answer questions or provide additional details in order to implement a successful fiber optic installation.
Maintain a safe work environment by following all required Federal and company guidelines, codes, standards, and legal requirements that may be applicable.
Other appropriate responsibilities relevant to the role today and the role as it may evolve.

What we’re looking for:


Graduate of a recognized Civil or Electrical Engineering Technologist, or Construction Management diploma program, or equivalent working experience.    Solid knowledge of aerial and buried fiber optic “drop cable” installations.
Solid knowledge of in-home and in-building wiring practices.
Working knowledge of telecommunications construction practices and documents including utility plans and maps, municipal guidelines, and familiarity with various pieces of construction equipment and their operating capabilities such as directional drills, vac trucks, road cut saws, etc.
Strong communicator with the ability to connect, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders.
Strong organizational and planning skills coupled with the ability to manage competing priorities.
Proficiency with Microsoft office, specifically Excel and Word.
Basic AutoCAD knowledge is considered an asset.
Valid G level driver’s license and able to provide a driver’s abstract to meet CVOR requirements.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
