About Us

Western English Language Centre (WELC) develops and delivers a range of English language programs that support international student success and contribute to the internationalization goals of the university. 

Responsibilities

The Admissions Officer and Analyst is accountable for effective communications and relationship management with applicants and stakeholders to support the application to decision life cycle. The role provides guidance and assignments to agents and recruitment officers supporting the recruitment worldwide, generates and monitors interest in WELC programs, projects acceptance levels and manages enrollment. This role ensures follow up for additional documents from applicants, coordinates with the Office of the Registrar, School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and affiliated University colleges admissions offices, communicates decisions to applicants and coordinates the financial deposits for the program. The Admissions Officer and Analyst supports the leadership of WELC with financial statements and revenue projections, based on the enrollment. 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or public relations, some undergraduate courses in finance and accounting

Experience:

  • 3 years experience providing administrative support and customer service in a post-secondary environment
  • Experience in student recruitment, admissions or financial services is preferred 
  • Experience using Salesforce Client Relationship Management (CRM) software preferred 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of post-secondary programs similar to WELC
  • Ability to collect and analyze data in an objective manner to make appropriate decisions and recommendations
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations that are clearly linked to the organization's strategy and goals
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Customer service skills to understand customer needs and expectations, with a desire to deliver helpful and reliable service to the University community
  • Interpersonal skills to liaise with prospective and current students, staff, faculty and other members of the Western community
  • Verbal communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action
  • Ability to establish rapport with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the University’s events and activities
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
  • Self-directed, and comfortable exercising discretion and independent judgment in a fast- paced environment
  • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, proficiency with Outlook mail merge or alternative campaign software preferred
  • Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
  • Familiarity with University policies and procedures preferred
