About Us

The Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University is a public, urban medical and dental school to serve the people of Southwestern Ontario. The School's mission is to provide medical and dental pre-and post-doctoral education programs.

At Schulich Dentistry, we prepare qualified graduates to provide dental care as well as generate knowledge through clinical research, basic science research and other scholarly activity. We also provide oral health care to the public through our on-site clinics and our community outreach programs, specifically, Dental Outreach Community Service (DOCS) and Oral Health, Total Health.

Responsibilities

Clinic Support - will provide in-person and virtual support to faculty and students within the Dental Clinics as well as administrative offices. The incumbent’s duties and responsibilities are outlined below. The incumbent will be responsible for providing support to faculty, staff or students, and for effectively carrying out a variety of tasks in accordance with policies, procedures, and instructions received from their supervisor.  The incumbent will take guidance from their supervisor, and work productively independently and courteously with other members of the Western community.

Availability and Work Location:

  • Must be available between 8am-12pm Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri and/or 12pm-4pm (Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Friday)
  • Must have a mobile device on which you can be reached during a shift, for reactive support calls

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Troubleshoot technical difficulties for faculty, staff, and students on an as needed basis; if unable to resolve ad hoc, capture details and escalate to Systems Administrator. This includes clinic cubicle workstations, radiology sensors, and staff desktop computers.
  • Support clinic staff with Salud scheduling software.
  • Perform brief troubleshooting of the patient management software (flow charts to be provided).
  • Perform a walkthrough of clinics at the start and end of each clinic session, while wearing IT identifiable vest (provided) making oneself available to answer IT questions or triage to Systems Administrator as needed:
    • Morning session (MOR) 8:00 – 12:00pm.
    • Afternoon session (AFT) 1:00 – 4:30pm.
  • Perform upkeep and maintenance-related tasks for IT and clinic technology, including organizing and straightening loose cords in cubicles on a daily basis.
  • Assist with asset tracking of Dentistry technology & equipment.
  • Offer prescheduled and reactive in-person assistance with dental clinic technology.


Qualifications 

Education:

  • Preferred: a full time student at Western (enrolled in minimum 3.5 courses), and expect to retain full-time student status for the duration of this appointment

Experience:

  • Experience using Microsoft Office, as well as experience with navigating Windows OS.


Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Written and verbal communication skills to express ideas clearly, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
  • Proficient with digital tools, including Zoom, Learning Management Systems (OWL, D2L, Elentra) and Office 365
  • Proficient using Windows OS
  • Ability to train/teach others how to use technological tools
  • Ability to troubleshoot clinic technology in-person during clinic sessions
  • Ability to multitask—utilizing multiple monitors and computers simultaneously—often while moderating
  • Ability to remain calm and troubleshoot under pressure—utilizing good judgment
  • Ability to respond professionally to faculty, staff, students under all circumstances
  • Punctuality and dependability
  • Confidence in assisting others
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
