CARFAX is looking for a skilled Systems Engineer to join our Enterprise Systems Engineering team. This team is highly collaborative, diverse, and geographically distributed. Our mission is to administer, secure, and improve thousands of servers and systems across the CARFAX enterprise, while also delivering new systems to meet business goals. We expect our candidate to demonstrate a successful track record in large-scale server administration, with a broad set of skills in configuring and administering on-premises and cloud environments, containerization, Infrastructure as Code, automation, and networking. At CARFAX, we believe in the power of teamwork and value in-person interactions so that we can collaborate and thrive together. This position will require 2 days per week in our London, ON office subject to change with future business needs. What you'll be doing: 
  • Design, install, and administer on-premises systems and servers.
  • Integrate new solutions with existing cloud resources or on-premises infrastructure.
  • Provide best practices, standards, training, and general support for both on-prem and cloud environments.
  • Configure hardware, peripherals, services, storage, etc., in accordance with security standards, project, or operational requirements.
  • Design, build, and administer enterprise cloud and hybrid systems infrastructure to meet business requirements for reliability and business recovery.
  • Participate in design decisions, including researching and prototyping new technologies.
  • Promote exceptional Containerization and Cloud platform design and quality.
  • Build and maintain systems and dashboards, develop using tools and scripts to monitor, recover, automate and streamline basic server and container administration functions
  • Innovate new ideas to evolve our applications and processes.
  • Continuously analyze and evaluate systems, products, and processes for potential improvements.

 What we're looking for:

  • 5+ years of experience building, hardening, and administering Windows in a production environment.
  • 3+ years of experience with configuration management systems (Chef, Ansible, Puppet).
  • Experience with Unified Computing Systems (UCS) chassis and blade systems or similar
  • Experience with SAN storage systems
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Kubernetes, including setup, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting (AWS EKS is a plus).
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, Azure or other cloud environments.
  • Experience with DHCP, DNS, IPAM
  • Experience with Active Directory, file systems management 
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, AWS CDK, etc.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell, Python, YAML, Bash, or other object-oriented or scripting languages.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS tools and products (e.g., EC2, VPCs, API Gateway, AWS Console, CLI, SDK).
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills for various systems and technologies.
  • Demonstrated initiative to learn, document, and teach.
  • Broad technology skills in DEVSECOPS (Development, Security, Operations) with knowledge of security and performance best practices for on-prem, cloud, and hybrid architectures.
  • Operational readiness to own the uptime and quality of systems.
  • Experience with observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and New Relic.
  • Experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions.

 Preferred Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience building, hardening, and administering Linux in a production environment 
  • Experience with virtualization, VMWare, and data storage systems
  • Experience with Hyperconverged Infrastructure
  • Experience with LAMP, Tomcat or other application stacks
  • Experience with TLS and Digital Certificates, and troubleshooting the same
  • Familiarity with F5, Gloo, VPC, load balancing, troubleshooting and diagnosing server and network related items
  • Site Reliability experience
  • Familiarity with CloudWatch, Splunk, Logstash or other logging aggregators
