About the Role
Reporting to the Site Security Manager, the Physical Security Specialist will oversee all aspects of physical security technologies including but not limited to, access control, badging, security cameras, drones, and integration with future technologies.
Responsibilities will include point of contact with security system designer and/or integrators, as well as project management during installation. This role will be responsible for ongoing support, implementation and project management for ongoing and future physical security projects, training, and oversight of the site Badging Centre.
This position is a temporary hybrid model, requiring 2 days per week onsite in the St. Thomas office. This is subject to change based on the needs of the project and will eventually transition to fully onsite.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the installation, programming, and management of all physical security related systems and operations including software, hardware, and operation.
- Oversee the day-to-day management of existing installations.
- Manage and supervise integrator(s) and engineering companies during the construction phase and ensure adherence to PowerCo Canada’s security standards.
- Manage and oversee the work of subcontractors responsible for post-installation maintenance of security systems, ensuring adherence to Security Standards.
- Conduct procurement processes for physical security technology, including purchasing and ordering services.
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all parties are well-informed and proper review and approval is received.
- Assist staff and improve the knowledge and skills of others, including identifying areas for enhancement, developing training programs, and instructing personnel on access control, CCTV, and technical equipment related topics.
- Ensure all technical systems are maintained with current software and firmware revisions, are routinely backed-up for data retrieval, and are routinely tested (by others) for emergency power transfer and continuing operations during power failure.
- Oversee the management of PowerCo Canada’s security systems, equipment, and expenses including inventory tracking, record keeping, product research, and supply procurement.
- Research and evaluate emerging access control technology such as new hardware, software, and management tools relating to security, access control, and CCTV systems.
- Act as the liaison between PowerCo Canada Security and PowerCo Canada IT for all technical related issues.
- Work in collaboration with the Security Operations team to define, recommend, and implement access control and security policies and standards.
- Advise department leaders and administration on physical security matters and serve as a resource to all PowerCo Canada.
- Responsible for establishing and leading the Card Service Centre processes and serving as the primary point of contact for access management.
- Provide consultation, recommendations, and technical expertise and support to PowerCo Canada’s upper management.
- Perform all work in compliance with plans, specifications, industry standards, best practices, and PowerCo Canada and VW standards.
- Provide direction and training as it relates to physical security systems and badging.
- Perform regular administrative tasks such as maintaining files, processing paperwork, entering data, and monitoring access control and CCTV systems.
- Ability to provide after-hours support in case of a technical emergency and respond immediately if required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you bring to the Team
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or Technical Diploma, coupled with 5 or more years of relevant work experience in the field of security management, security operations, or security technology.
- Advanced knowledge of convergence between physical security systems, IT systems, and Fire Notification systems.
- Demonstrated experience in consulting, stakeholder engagement, and implementation of physical security systems, i.e., access control, CCTV, key control, and public address systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical reports.
- Experience defining and implementing security zones of protection and associated programming of access control cards.
- Experience with physical security system implementation for new construction is considered an asset.
- ASIS CPP, APP, PSP, or equivalent certification.
- CPTED certification preferred.
- Additional product certifications related to access control and CCTV are preferred.
- Ability to travel internally for training and collaboration.
