The Sr. Manager, Content is a dynamic leader, focused on strategic vision, growing talent and inspiring the delivery of best-in-class content marketing for our client partners. The Sr. Manager, Content is expected to have well-rounded skills in all aspects and disciplines of SEO, email marketing, social media marketing and content strategy. An understanding of digital marketing, data and analytics, and creative strategy is an asset. 

 

As the leader of the content community of practice, the Sr. Manager, Content is responsible for developing and executing targeted content strategies across platforms and communication mediums based on our client’s business objectives as well as the needs of its customers. You can understand and articulate the client’s brand and use data-informed insights to identify audience patterns that will allow us to connect with customers in meaningful and compelling ways.  

 

The Sr. Manager, Content is both creative and tactical. You have excellent writing skills, client-facing skills, and significant SEO knowledge. The strategist must work with the organization's content management systems, web analytics platform, SEO research software, and other tools that aid the content planning and publication process.

 

Coaching members of the team to understand the role of content marketing in the marketing funnel will be an integral part of this role, as well as cultivating and inspiring the team to produce creative work that performs.
 

As an industry leader, you’ll also keep up with the latest trends, bringing innovative thinking and solutions to the business, including the identification and adoption of emerging technologies and AI. 



Duties & Responsibilities
Client Focus 

  • Understand how content marketing integrates with other functional areas of marketing, to work with strategists and subject matter experts in other functional areas to share insights, integrate plans, and drive performance for clients.
  • Lead the development of content strategies that align with the client’s short-term and long-term marketing goals, brand and style guide.
  • Understand content’s role in driving organic traffic and conversions, including the ability to measure and report on performance.  
  • Use measurement tools to analyze website traffic and users' engagement metrics and leverage data and brand insights to assess performance of existing content relative to client goals.
  • Write, edit and proofread content to ensure brand consistency and search engine optimization following best practices. 
  • Ability to manage the development of all content formats: written, visual  and audio; understanding the role of each in the overall content strategy
  • Optimize content for search engines while maintaining user experience and engagement, including keyword usage and placement, meta tags optimization, and content formatting.
  • Edit and proofread the content team’s written copy to translate complex information and ideas into concise, easily digestible content that meets the goals of the deliverable, and the brief.
  • Provide strategic input and feedback on visual content to the creative team to ensure all forms of content are executed to meet the client’s business goals. 
  • Manage content distribution to online channels and social media platforms to increase web traffic.
  • Play an integral part in the quality assurance/control process, ensuring content is fully edited, accurate, relevant, and client brand standards are upheld.
  • Create and maintain all necessary documentation pertinent to a particular client’s content requirements (style guide, writing guide, brand terms sheet).


Community of Practice Leadership 

  • Work as an integral member of the Growth Strategy practice on the team, understanding the role content marketing plays in the achievement of greater marketing goals, and greater business goals for clients.
  • Manage the editorial/content department, leading the internal and contractor content team, including assignment of writers and coordinating assignments as required, capacity planning, timesheet submissions, and reconciliation of time to ensure effort spent is within the allocated budget.
  • Responsible for training in-house and freelance writers on SEO and writing best practices.
  • Bring thought leadership and innovation to the content community of practice within the agency group. 
  • Actively support new business opportunities with documents, creative assets, and case studies
  • Coordinate and lead weekly team project planning meetings 
  • Provide Account Managers with strategy and rationale to support creative work. 
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly to colleagues and clients in both verbal and written form
  • Ensure all writers have a working knowledge of SEO best practices. 



Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree in Communications, Business, Commerce, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience leading marketing content efforts in the areas of SEO, Web, Social, and Brand
  • 10+ years of experience in writing, editing, content strategy & coordination
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role in a marketing agency environment or similar
  • 10+ years of experience in the consumer marketing space 
  • 5+ years of experience leading selling efforts to new and existing clients in a marketing agency environment
  • Experience working with or for large multinational brands or organizations
  • Exceptional communication (both written and verbal), organizational, time management and leadership skills are essential to this role
  • Ability to create team connection, accountability, and performance
  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal teams and clients
  • Creative and strategic thinking capabilities to drive the development of innovative campaigns
  • Ability to produce high-quality work, at high volumes and at a rapid pace
