Business Intelligence (BI) Developer

Description

Reporting to the Manager, BI and Data Engineering, the BI Developer will be a key member of the Customer Insights & Analytics team. Their primary focus will be collaborating with stakeholders to discern business requirements and deliver necessary BI solutions.

The BI Developer will be responsible for transforming raw data into actionable tools that are relied-upon by the business. This role involves creating and defining metrics, developing user-friendly reports, and ensuring adherence to best data visualization standards. They will collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver high-quality BI solutions that drive business decisions.
 

What you will be responsible for:

• Data Integration and Analysis:
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to define the business layer and presentation layer of the BI model that is business-friendly and supports a self-service environment where appropriate.
  • Performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Report Development and Maintenance:
  • Developing and maintaining reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using Power BI.
  • Conducting ongoing monitoring of existing key reports to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Providing subject matter expertise on systems, solutions, and reports built or supported by the team.
• User Experience and Design:
  • Combining business questions and requirements into easy-to-understand analytics solutions.
  • Leading the design process from ideation to polished design, using sketches, wireframes, UX scenarios, and mockups to present ideas.
  • Ensuring a good user experience by using the applications being built and putting oneself in the shoes of the end user to drive improvement.
• Collaboration and Communication:
  • Working closely with the Data Engineering team to support data quality testing and ensuring data is fit for use.
  • Supporting governance over Power BI by documenting metrics, ensuring reports don’t overlap and maintaining a clean library of reports for users.
  • Reviewing functional and design specifications to ensure full understanding of individual deliverables and expected outputs.
  • Clearly communicating requirements and translating them into technical requirements for execution.
• Standards and Best Practices:
  • Conducting a comprehensive review of all current BI reporting to establish enterprise reporting standards.
  • Developing scalable solutions for handling large data volumes, complex, and interactive reporting.
  • Staying current with BI tools, techniques, and best practices to ensure the team is using the most effective methods and technologies.
     

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, management information systems, finance, statistics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of demonstrated experience in creating reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using Power BI.
• Experience with creating user-centric BI solutions that follow solid data visualization and UX principles.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
• Ability to multi-task with conflicting priorities. 
• Experience in digital analytics or marketing analytics.
•  Proven skills in creating custom data visualizations and data experiences using Power BI.
• Ability to collaborate fluently with cross-functional partners.
• Sense of urgency and ability to prioritize important work.
