The institution offers more than 200-degree, diploma, certificate and apprenticeship programs to 43,000 students each year, helping people unlock their potential and achieve success in a variety of disciplines including applied arts, business, health care, human services, hospitality, and technology.

Fanshawe also plays an important role in providing re-skilling and skills upgrading opportunities for mature learners through the design and delivery of custom training for federally and provincially sponsored trainees, community organizations, sectoral training councils, and private sector employers in the business, health, industrial and service sectors.

Fanshawe College has much to offer, including an award-winning faculty, excellent facilities, and helpful support services to ensure their students achieve their personal, educational, and professional goals. The College continues to plan for the future with a focus on innovation, strategic growth, and expansion with significant investment into program development and student success support. As a result, the College is committed to searching for a visionary Chief Innovation and Open Assets Officer (CIOA) who will successfully inspire, integrate, transform, and fuel a culture of sustainable innovation that will ultimately shape and differentiate Fanshawe as a bold, innovative leader within the post-secondary market.

What You Will Do

Reporting to the President and a member of the Senior Leadership Council as the Chief Innovation and Open Assets Officer (CIOA) for Fanshawe College, you will drive the strategic creation of a meaningful ecosystem that provides students with non-traditional learning opportunities which would stimulate their development in ways that are unconventional and unique; builds connections with industry, business, and community partners; and enables a culture of disruptive innovation that challenges the status quo and promotes idea generation in alignment with Fanshawe’s strategic goals and objectives.

While leveraging the capacity of the College, you will develop a comprehensive and sustainable innovation strategy that is endorsed by key stakeholders including executive leadership; college employees; students; and industry, business, and community partners. You will deliver visionary leadership through the development, execution, and maintenance of a well-balanced innovation portfolio and roadmap that drives impressive interest, investment, and philanthropic opportunities to fuel economic growth, social benefits, and the expansion of student opportunities. Fostering an innovation-driven academic culture, you will encourage open and transformational thinking, helping both students and faculty to reach new heights while also providing clarity and alignment to Fanshawe College’s existing Innovation Village (IV).

As a diplomatic, resourceful, and enthusiastic leader, you will facilitate multi-disciplinary and multi-departmental collaborations - intersecting at all levels of the College and community - to integrate and promote entrepreneurial activities that cut across the entire organization. You will effectively support the stewardship of assets and identify new trends and emerging opportunities for the College to embrace.

What You Will Bring

You are an entrepreneurial-minded, educated master’s level graduate with extensive demonstrated experience creating, planning, and implementing strategic innovation and transformation initiatives. As a bold, highly collaborative, empowering, and influential leader, you have 10+ years of proven experience successfully motivating and engaging teams to mobilize new concepts and programs to achieve strategic goals. You are a resilient leader who has demonstrated integrity and a high level of commitment to the advancements of an organization, maintaining a solutions-focused, big-picture mindset to remove roadblocks, gain buy-in, and achieve results. Your capacity to think unconventionally, creatively, and critically will be foundational to your credibility in this role as will your passion for building relationships internally and externally to facilitate organizational objectives. Additionally, you have a brilliant outlook on leveraging technology (new and emerging) to drive business initiatives forward. You are also accustomed to working across a large organization, coordinating and synergizing efforts with multiple stakeholders, and driving institutional change. Ideally, you have worked within a complex public sector organization. Proven team management, budgetary, project planning, and presentation skills will also be key success factors to this position.
