Job Details

CARFAX Canada is excited to announce the position of SQL DBA/Azure Cloud Engineer, reporting to our Manager of Cloud and DevOps. This role will be part of a dynamic operations team that is excited to promote and adopt a Database DevOps mindset. In this role, you will work closely with engineering/architecture, data management and IT support to ensure our production systems are deployed, managed, and monitored. You will be asked to lead, manage, assess, and implement structure, process, and monitor database systems. Providing feedback to all teams will be key to your team’s continuous improvement. You will be required to learn, research, pilot and recommend new tools and technologies that can be leveraged to improve the way we work.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Support database workloads in Azure Cloud and SQL expertise as a shared resource to Agile projects
  • Pro-active and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of difficult SQL issues
  • Administrative support of MS SQL Server versions 2016, 2019 and Azure SQL including: Database Engine, Integration Services (SSIS), Analysis Services (SSAS) and Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • Configure Azure SQL database/elastic pools for scale and performance
  • Implement data security, Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), object-level encryption, Dynamic Data Masking, Azure Key Vault, and disk encryption for Azure VMs
  • Prepare operational performance baseline, assess database performance by using Intelligent Insights for Azure SQL Database and Managed Instances
  • Migration of database objects from development through production following documented standards, policies and procedures (Change Management Process)
  • Extensive experience with MS SQL production environments
  • Reviewing all artifacts planned for production release including but not limited to: Store Procedures, SSIS packages, SSRS, database designs, extract value from its data by creating and managing ETL jobs
  • Participation in after-hours and weekend support of production implementations, infrastructure activities, and various disaster recovery exercises
  • Advise on, and implement best practices for monitoring, logging and alerting
  • Maintain compliance with our backup policies/strategies and help refine disaster recovery plans

Education and Experience Required

  • 8+ years of experience as a database administrator or engineer
  • College diploma or University degree in Computer Sciences or a similar field of study
  • Experience managing/ supporting MS SQL database servers used by .Net, C# applications, and CI/CD
  • Experience monitoring tools such Applications Insights, Azure Monitor, log analytics, Kusto Query Language, alerting, dashboards, workbooks, KPIs Master-level scripting and automation abilities (PowerShell, ARM Templates, Runbooks, Cloud Shell, T-SQL stored procedures and functions to support internal processes and improve system performance)
  • Previous experience working in an Agile environment
  • Database and Cloud certification, preferably Microsoft Certified: MSCA, Azure DBA, Azure Administrator
